Heart of Humboldt

Jefferson Highschool's frontage on Killingsworth will be taking on a new look if the Humboldt Target Area Steering Committee plans are implemented. Final planning is about to get underway on the design of the "stadium" look of the Jefferson Track. We plan to take down the barbed-wire and hedges that seperate the school from the community and replace it with an attractive colliesum-type landmark, public plaza, and green space. A community process has begun to solicite feedback and opinion on the design. We need to finalize the design, obtain cost estimates, then confirm partners and funders for the project. Want to help? Humboldt Rebuilding Web Site

To keep our technically wired neighbors better informed about 'Humboldt Happenings' we're making a fresh start at updating the web site. Jabbara Edwards and David Uphoff are website coordinators. If you'd like to join in the job of keeping information current, please call 503.282.4780.

Is the Masonic Building Worth Saving?

The Target Area has launched a feasibility study to determine whether or not the Masonic Temple Building on Commercial -- vacant for 15 years or more -- can be converted into usable space. The idea being examined is a music and performing arts center, museum, cultural center or similar facility that would serve the needs of Jefferson High School, maybe PCC, and the broader Albina Community. This is just the idea now. Would you like to help work on this project?
