Anti-Environment and anti-health

Amendment 20 was a terrible amendment. It was anti-environment and contrary to Metro Louisville's plans for clean air. Promoting turf grass adds to our already poor air quality. Asthma is a serious health problem here and the number one reason our children miss school. This ordinance is very anti-children?’s health. At the last meeting, the Mayor cut me off when I tried raising the issues of health and environment. Why don't they want to talk about the environmental impact of this ordinance? Is there something about dirty air that I?’m missing?

As noted at the last meeting, the ordinance was passed illegally. It was never read twice the same. And both reading were at ''special'' meetings. The final passage was at a meeting with no residents present.

As for ''maintaining uniformity and good sense'' - what a joke! Is browned out grass and weed filled easement someone's joke of beauty? Flowers and ornamental plants are ugly? Has someone been reading old Superman comics about Bizzaro World? If you want to see what Themla Brooks and the Commissioners' think is ?“sightly?” check out the alternative Strathmoor Village website at http://strathmoorvillage.blogspot.com/. There you can see photos of the easements in question and make up your own mind.

Finally, what is this nonsense about a few angry residents getting their way? At the open meeting where residents attended to present their views on the ordinance over 60 people showed up - a record I?’m told for this board. While the mayor tried to limit discussion to 3 people per side, about a dozen residents spoke in opposition to the ordinance and many others not allowed to speak. Louisville?’s Air Pollution Control District even spoke in opposition to the ordinance! When it was time for the pro-grass people to speak - no one would speak. They mayor begged anyone to speak for it. Finally, Michelle Amin apologized for causing so much trouble.
Well Said!

Well said, Ms. Brooks! These people forget about the importance of the easements for drainage on our streets. And you are right on about the easements that are unsightly. These people have their whole yard to plant whatever they wish. Why are they so worked up about an easement that is a few feet wide? I think the Board needs to stand up to these people. Let's see them try this stuff in Audubon Park or somewhere. They would get laughed out of there.

We are neighbours

What grass lover may not know is that one resident, at least, was given permission to plant in the easement. It is my understanding that originally when the neighbourhood was designed that each easement contained at least a bush or two.

Let's stop wanting to see people laughed out of anywhere. Come on. We are neighbours.
