Proposed Car Wash Baxter/Stevens

Posted in: Deer Park
direction of neighborhood

I strongly believe that a car wash on the corner of Baxter and Stevens Avenue
would take our wonderful quiet and safe neighborhood in a negative direction. I am very concerned about the downward domino affect a development like a car wash could have. A car wash is not a welcome or advantageous additon. The coin operated car wash on Bardstown Road is 0.6 miles away and the coin operated and automated car wash on Poplar Level Road is only 1.9 miles away. I drove to these locations in two and five minutes perspectively. The developers can take their plans to a less residential location where it is wanted and needed. They can make more money somewhere else and not at our neighborhood's expense.

Car Wash Doesn't Fit

I've wondered what would happen to Issing's and have noticed the fast decay of the building over the last year or so. Certainly, something should be done to clean up that space... A new business, perhaps. But a car wash would be a terrible idea. Increasing vehicle traffic in a neighborhood that is already overburdened with 'cruising' seems short sighted. I live very close to Bardstown Road and the traffic noise can be overwhelming. Routing more of that Bardstown Road traffic through our neighborhood streets to a specifically-targeted automobile attraction would be a regrettable mistake.
Alternate Business Proposal

My associates and I have been looking for a new site for our gaming enterprize. Our track record as a good responsible citizen of Deer Park Speaks for itself. And the addition of facilities for Highlands youth would definitley be a positive addition to the neighborhood. If the car wash does not reside at the stevens Location how would the readers of this forum feel about this?
Property Values

Nice, affordable housing on pleasant streets is the foundation of any desireable neighborhood. Why would we risk radically changing the make up of the neighborhood when it could erode the reason we all have chosen to live here? The people who pay property taxes are the most valuable asset of any community. If a car wash or a ''gaming enterprise'' were to negatively influence home ownership or property values - you have basically ruined a neighborhood.
