Is it OK to disagree here?

Little crime even w/o BlockWatch

I have several friends who are police officers. 2 of them work the East End and tell me the kids at Ballard HS buy and sell more Sudafed and other drugs in the neighborhoods off Brownsboro Rd than in anywhere. (AND the all have INPRESSIVE entrances and SUBTLE lighting!

In our neighborhood of over 400 homes we have VERY few break-ins. Bikes are stolen in every area of town, every day.

If so many are concerned about crime prevention - why has there been no OUTCRY or attempt at simply a Block Watch?

If it happened to you

All the people who are against street lights would change there minds if it was their residence that was broken in to. And you have to consider that some of us live in very very dark areas with absolutly no lighting and no houses to one side of us. Some subtle lighting would benefit our neighborhood. Have you all ever tried walking in our streets at night with no lights. It is not safe for females at all by themselves. You have to constantly watch your back and it is very scary. Lets think about that a little more, kids and ladies in the street after dark. Does everyone not want their family a little more safe at night. And everyone is right, crime happens everywhere and always will. It is about making the streets safer for our families while trying to prevent a little crime.

And as far as a block watch goes, I had two neighbors home in the middle of the day when our house got burglarized. Nobody heard or saw anything. A block watch is great except how many times does a burglar actually get caught in the act!!!!
Burglarized in Broad Daylight!!

You said you were ''burglarized in the middle of the day''?

Then PLEASE explain to all of us how a street light or lights would have prevented it?

It's 10am right now - looks pretty bright outside.

pay for a light if you want one

If you feel the need for a light at your corner - then request it and pay for it. Plus, there are all kinds of outdoor lamps at Lowe's & Home Depot.

Don't try to scare people into a rush for streetlights just because you want them.
