From WCNC story at 11:00 PM http://www.wcnc.com/news/topstories/stories/wcnc-081709-mrn-floodingblame.eedbf2d6.html
Tim Trautman, manager of Mecklenburg County’s Flood Mitigation program, said it's a much more complex issue than just widening the creek bed, although he acknowledged the city project improved drainage in the area. Trautman said the county would like to offer a federal buyout program for the owners of flood-prone properties, but most of the homes do not qualify for disaster funding because flood waters have only reached the crawl space, not the living quarters of the houses. “We’re going to have to be more flexible and more creative in how we deal with situations like this,” Trautman told NewsChannel 36. |

This is disconcerting...I just bought my house a year ago and did my research to see if it is in a flood plain (it IS NOT) but my house still almost flooded on Sunday afternoon. I hope I get bought out some day. |
