I'm glad I read this. What about house break-ins?
Well, I didn't exactly have a house break in but I did have a very uncomfortable thing happen. It was the evening of Dec. 18th , 2010 and I was up late getting ready for a Christmas party the following day. My house was all lit up as I was running around getting things ready and at 11:30 PM there was a knock on my door. I looked out and saw no one there, so I did what any sleep deprived, unthinking fool would do: I went outside. I noticed a old Jeep wagon with dark tinted windows drive down the street, turn the corner, go about a block and do a U-turn and then pull over and park and shut off it's lights. I wasn't sure if this was the source of the knock or if it was someone coming home late, so I went back inside. I decided to go to bed and I started shutting off lights. As I got to one area of the front of my house, I noticed through the blinds that the motion detector light outside had gone on. I opened the blinds to find two young african-american men with "hoodies" on, pulled over their heads RIGHT outside my window. One of them noticed me and gave a gesture as if asking "what time is it?" and then pointed to my front door, like he wanted me to meet him there. I yelled "NO" and shouted, "get off my property" and took my cell phone out of my pocket so he could see I was calling 911. The police did arrive but by then they were long gone. My feeling is, it was a week before Christmas and they were "casing" the neighborhood. Needless to say, it was rather disturbing.
