I would be all for funding additional public safety people from the local option tax. The process is really simple, put it on a ballot and the voters can elect to use part of this money for funding them.

Local Option Tax ( 1 cent)

The local option sales tax (1 cent) was for a specific time, and, a specific use. You can blame yourself for its' continueance. You either didn't for, or, voted for it. As I recall, it's been voted on twice now, since it's inception, and passed both times. They are diverting the money to other projects, but, the sewer improvement/seperation is still ongoing, and, the streets are getting fixed. I just wish they'd use cement and do it right the first time, rather than using asphalt, and having to redo it in a few years. They overlaid Newell Avenue a few years ago, only took 2 days, and 2 years later, it was in the same shape that it was orginally. Now it's worse than before. No room to overlay again (only have about a 1'' curb now). They should start over, since it is such a heavily used street.

I don't disagree with you. I know that there is a way to get something on the ballot, I just don't know how to do it, or, who to ask how to do it. But, I know that it is possible!
