Pardon me but...

Are you not responsible for your daughter's well being? Why should that be the responsibility of the government? The government should never be used as psuedo parents. As the number of these cases increases, the ability of the social service system to deal with them decreases.
180 degree

argument to what everyone else has posted will be my point here. As a rule I don't advocate violence other than to humorously accuse others of hitting me with floppy pickles and black olives. But reading the news article on this point really brings my blood to boil.

The fact that we live in a society where we are split down the middle on abortion; an issue which every four years becomes a major sticking point in any Presidential election, is becoming terribly mundane and redundant. Instead of arguing the abortion issue we should be arguing child protection issues for all children who were not sacrificed via the abortionist? We're talking about innocent young children falling into abusive hands only to become damaged by vile, detestable people who shouldn't be allowed to have a pet canary let alone a young child.

I remember covering a story a few years back about an individual in Arizona who hung his girlfriends 9 month old baby by it's feet in a doorway and then pummeled the child much the way Mike Tyson pummeled a speed bag. That asshole got 10 years and walked on good behavior 18 months later. Again, I don't normally advocate violence but I would have given anything to find that dirt bag, take him to a bar, get him drunk, lead him back to an abandoned warehouse, hang him from his heels and worked him over with spiked ball bat. Know what I mean?

There are those who say our government can't be responsible for parenting. To that I say ''Bullsh-t. We need to hold these type of people accountable for their actions against children. We scream, protest and decry the actions of pedophiles in our society; what makes a child abuser any less valuable?

I know this is idealistic but make the punishment fit the crime. Punishment for shaken baby syndrome should be meted out in the same manner. Rather than just shake the individual, let's hang 'em like a bell clapper and use their noggins to ring the bells of justice. If they come out brain damaged, oh well, we can always put 'em in Depends and feed 'em oatmeal.

The fact remains as long as society allows this type of behavior to carry on with the lienency of nothing more than a slap on the wrist by our Court system then our children are doomed to a life of hell.

it's not about DHS...

It's about the CHILD.

From what I've read and seen on the news, DHS was not involved in this, as it was going to be a private adoption.

When placing a child in foster care, or with prospective adoptive parents, nobody really knows, unless there is a history of abuse, who is going to be a good parent and who is not. There are tons of kids out there living in foster homes and adoptive homes who have loving and caring parents. We don't get to hear about those too often though.

Not wanting to pass judgement until the woman has her day in court, I can only say that if she is convicted, 10 years is not enough of a sentence...this child, if he even survives, faces a lifetime of monumental challenges he never should have had to face.

I am definitely out of the jury pool for this one.

Anyway, send prayers or positive thoughts for this baby...he's going to need it.

Love,
Lil
