Salt

Dave,
I can't tell you about anyplace else, but, the City of Muscatine, along with Muscatine County, contract their salt out, from a salt mine in (I believe, Southern Illinois). It is shipped up the river (by barge) to Muscatine, sometime in October/November. The 2 entities contract out at LEAST ONE BARGE LOAD of salt a year, and GENERALLY have some over for the next year. There IS no shortage of salt, and Muscatine has NEVER run out, in my recollection. We've been darned short a few times, but never ran out. Have a HAPPY NEW YEAR.
Clearing snow

I live on west 2nd and TRUST ME someone is removing snow because I can HEAR IT AT 1:00 AM!!! I have had to listen to the sound of whoever scooping and scraping the past few nights. How come it can't be done during the day?? Oh yea thats right.. the shop owners Im sure will complain that it might take away from business. BLAH BLAH BLAH..

FYI

The city removes snow 24 hours a day when necessary. They work 2 12 hour shifts. I would rather put up with a little noise than have snow up to my eyeballs.
It's not a little noise

The whole ground shakes and it is a pain to listen to. Im sure there are others who hear it too.
