Snow Removal

I for one think the city crews do a super job and I call Public works every year and pass that on to them. People now a days are TOO quick to jump on/complain and find fault in every thing/everyone instead of trying to find a little positive in all of life's little adventures.
I do not like working 12hr shifts and they (City workers) most likely don't either but they do it because it's their job and to me the do their jobs very well in regards to snow removeal.
Any way Happy New Year all and enjoy the falling snow this afternoon.

some of our side streets are

still a bit messy, but the main roads are ok. We have a small town, but we have a lot of streets. City workers salt the roads before a storm & clear them during & after the storm. They clear the roads in early morning hours to allow people to get to work, school, etc. in the morning.
We live in Iowa & it's winter. It's pretty when it snows, but it's a pain in the butt. Our city workers are doing a great job. They are working many, many hours to help us get where we need/want to be safely. Primary highways & roads are the 1st priority, then the secondary roads. If you choose to live on a secondary road, you get the quiet & serenity in the summer that those of us living on primary roads don't get. You get disturbed in the wee hours in the winter. It's a trade-off.

running out of salt

(snip)
The city of Davenport has used about 6,000 of its 9,000 tons of salt and expects to order a second load, street supervisor Keith Addison said.

The city is using significantly more salt this year than last year, and already has dipped into its supplemental supply for the first time in years,

(snip)
The DOT?’s supply of salt statewide has been seriously depleted to approximately 35,000 tons. Only limited supplies continue to arrive in the state. DOT maintenance crews can use approximately 10,000 tons of salt per significant winter event.
