To my credit card debt if I croak? I don't have the optional insurance which, I'm being pressured by the credit card co. to buy. It costs $0.96 per hundred owed. My kids wanna know if they will get stuck with it.

The ''right thing'' to do, is if you have insurance that will pay some kind of benefit to your spouse, children, etc, is to state in your will that your debts should be paid first, and anything remaining would go to whatever/whomever it states in your will.

If that's not your thing, your next-of-kin can always mark any bills ''deceased'', and return them to your creditor. Your creditors, of course, will ask for verification that you are indeed dead.

Are you anticipating not being here to pay some of these bills? Sorry to hear if you are anticipating that.


NEVER do the credit card insurance thing...it's not worth it, it's just added income for credit card companies.

I have a grandmother, 90+ years-old, and she still gets solicitations through the mail for credit cards. Don't these companies know that a 90+ year old woman might not make it to pay these debts off? Any debt you have already incurred is your responsibility....but there's no need to go into further debt thinking you or your family probably won't have to pay.

Okay, before I add a ''booster'' to this soapbox, I'll step down.

I can only tell you that if you die, your creditors have the legal right to pursue payment from your estate. Some will get paid, some won't.

It's all about doing the right thing.

for your response. I'm trying to find an affordable solution to left over debts. My funeral is paid for. I'm still paying off my mom's bills. I don't want my kids saddled with any of mine. It don't look like the lottery is gonna come through. LOL.
