Muscatine humane society

Posted in: Muscatine
Has anyone had any problems with the humane society not taking any animals. I had a female cat dumped on my porch the other day in a box. This cat was pregnant and looked about ready to have her kittens. All of my seven cats I currently have are rescued, and as much as I'd like to, I can't afford to take in anymore. I called the humane society, and they told me they never turned down any animal. But then I told them I lived right outside of muscatine in Louisa county, they then said I needed to pay a fee of $50.00. I told them I didnt have that much money at the preasant time, but would be more them willing to donate some of my cats cat food and litter, since I always stalk up on all of that stuff anyway. They still declined to take the mother cat. I asked them if they had anymore suggestions and the said,'' no, not really.'' I told the gal I had spoke with that I didn't want to just let her back outside, I felt that was mean. She could have complications and or the kittens will bread and then the population would continue to grow. They still said they could not help me. I had called around to vets and still had no luck. I understand that the humane society runs off of donations, but if they say they care about anmimals and never turn them down, they have a funny way of showing it. Was just wondering if anyone else has had any issues like that with them.

This is all your own fault

If the Louisa County Supervisors would just step up to the plate and help support the Humane Society, much like the city and county of Muscatine do, then you could expect eqaul service. Your elected officials have consisitently refused to make any contributions to the Humane Society. You then should expect to pay your own way. My taxes shouldn't subsidize people living in Louisa County bring animals to the Muscatuen Humane Society. I expect nothing for nothing, and neither should anyone else. I suggest you call your elected officials and tell them to step up to their responsibilites. There are no free rides.

Good point-

poster should do some butt kicking of the bubba's that run their county.

I most certantly agree with your assesment of the need of our elected officals to step up, that in itself isn't that hard of an argument. However, in retrospect I resent the insuation that someone uncaring and unscrupulous enough to (DUMP THIER PREGNANT CAT AT MY DOORSTEP) is somehow my fault. Be that as it may I had been told that the humane societies from one community to another, driven by aspca standerds would welcome animals under such circumstances regaurdless of county lines. Lord knows Im trying to do my part with the plethora of abandoned amimals I have already taken in. With understanding and thanks Ilovehorses2007.
