Opinion

This is such a huge issue these days and I believe the illegal immigrant situation will be an even bigger issue than the situation Iraq in the upcoming elections.

There are so many aspects to this problem that I believe it is way too complicated for our local law enforcement to handle correctly. Some of the documentation obtained illegally even fool the experts and take a tremendous amount or time and money to search them out and track illegals down. For instance, how do they obtain driver's licenses?

I do wish it was as easy as catching them, identifying them and sending them back to their own countries. But I am afraid they will only return so therefore the problem will still be a difficult situation for authorities to deal with when they return.

I don't have a suggestion that would solve every and all issues of this huge and complex situation we are now faced with, due to our lack of action way back when the onset began. I do believe however, the beginning of the solution lies with the employers. If found to hire illegals knowingly, they should be slapped with huge fines. And, at the same time, screen welfare applicants with a huge magnifying glass.

I like many others deplore seeing America's laws ignored and trampled on by all the persons who continually break and or ignore them. I know I will listen very closely to the politician's stance on this subject and hope you all do the same.

Have a great Sunday. Go Bears

Who is going to pay

for this stepped up enforcement by local law enforcement? We dont have enough cops as it is let alone if we charge them with enforcing immigration laws that the feds should be doing. Look I dont like the idea that folks are here illegally but think about it for a second. Who is going to pick the tomatoes, slaughter the cows, pigs and chickens, pick lettuce etc? The average American is not going to work for the wages that these jobs pay or they are not going to work that hard. How many of you have worked in a packing house? It aint easy, pretty or nice. It will pay the bills but most of us wont do it. How much are you willing or able to pay for a tomato or head of lettuce? We can shout all we want about illegals but the simple fact is that we as a country need them. If we didnt, the govt would have done away with them already. Someone is going to be the lower class in this country and those folks are the ones that are going to do these jobs for these wages.

Herman-

My earlier post.

This morning-

Oct 28, 2007
I was watching Farm Report (every Sunday 6-7am, ch. 6). They were discussing the crops that were going unpicked in the fields this year because of the shortage of pickers. Kinda shoots down the theory that migrants take jobs americans don't want. Where the hell were they?

If I may

I'd like to give my opinion on this. I'd like to do so without any major uproar.

I think we need to close our boarders. Close the china market and become what we once were. (self supporting) We to feed our children before we feed the world.
