Babbled

stenchy,
With references to Pakistan, turbins, and crossing an ocean to get here in the poem Nedl posted, and with nothing posted about Mexico or Mexicans, I can clearly see why you babbled on and on about Mexico and Mexicans.

Reading skills lacking a little there, lawyerboy?

Yep, Nedl; you have clearly driven stenchy over the top.

Illegal Immigration

Nedl offered up what many of us feel about the illegal immigration situation. Nedl, your comments did border on racism. HOWEVER... what he says is true! Illegal immigrants are crossing our borders by the hundreds; sending their pregnant women here to have their babies so they can ''become legal citizens'', (even REQUIRING our health system to KNOW THEIR language), so they can reap the legal & social (welfare) benefits; benefits OUR country has to offer. They ARE NOT IDIOTS! We are!
There are many that come here to live, make money & send it across the border, and many of them are in the ''income range'' that they get welfare. Some may take jobs that many of us don't want; but that isn't always the case, for crying out loud.
I don't agree with the ''Wall'' that is being built...but what can we do?
Good paying jobs are so hard to come by. There are many jobs posted that say, ''Bi-Lingual'' applicants preferred? Our society & our kids should adapt to our changing environment. True! What I don't understand is this. WHY do WE need to adapt? Why do we HAVE to learn/speak another language? That would be a wonderful contribution to our country, an awesome skill for us all to have, but should it be REQUIRED? NO WAY!
In the past, immigrants adapted to the world they came to. We should not be required to ADAPT to accomodate ''their'' needs. PERIOD.
I appreciate the chance to welcome other worlds & cultures to our country, to our town! I do NOT expect to HAVE to allow anyone free reign to force myself or my family to ''make life easier'' on ANYONE; when we as a country are struggling! It's preposterive!
We all, as a human race, make decisions. Morally, we are all required, as a human race, to live with that decision and LIVE with those consequences. If a ''LEGAL Immigrant'' chooses to come to our country, and needs a bit of help for a WHILE; in my opinion, go for it! Welcome! & Share your heritage with us!
Get acclimated, learn the language, learn our culture, GET A JOB!
The REQUIREMENT for US to EMBRACE the lack of english skills & the financial help nedl refers to is ludicrous! It's NOT THERE for our 20 something children, and to many others in our country! Too many can't afford health care, etc. Why should the help be there for a ''new immigrant'', and not for someone that has lived here all their lives? That is the million dollar question.

nice

post tlou and I too liked the poem. I just don't think you can understand if you are not in one of the job markets affected. I grow up in the seventies when all the farm shops were going strong, when we still produced steel. My folks(both), grandma, two uncles and two aunts worked at IH. that's where I was going. then the eighties hit and we all felt the hit. Everyone was jobless. so I went where you go if under educated, the construction field. It's a good field and their is money in it. But for the workers there are no benefits, sometimes no taxes, no overtime pay, and long hours. Still better then temp jobs. but now we are facing a housing slump with work slow down. so after our legislators and big business sent our good job cross the border, I am left to compete against guys here illegally for my bread and butter. All I would like to see is the government do their jobs right. arrest law breakers, defend our borders and leave the constitution alone. mahalo and sorry for the whine but it just not right.
