A few years back

we had a 4th of july party and told everyone to bring there kids. we had a horse troph for bobbin apples and a egg toss, a potatoe on a spoon race, and used gunny sacks for i legged race.the kids loved it and so did the adults none of those kids had ever done any of those things.the apple bobbin was the funniest thing you ever saw. the egg toss was fun to I just drug the hose out and when they got hit hosed them off lots of fun.2 summers ago we had the kids birthday parties all together here and did the same thing they loved it.I have a 9 year old that lives with us and we make stuff out of boxes all the time forts garages what ever he feels like that day.he and I also took a sheet of plywood and made him a track for his little cars trucks like a small town.oh and he and I got on the computer and found A place to show us how to make several types of paper planes.I think he enjoys doing these things more then playing video games wich I really dont allow much and absoutly no violence.yep the good ole days.and lil we still make tents in the livingroom or forts.kids gotta love em!

Hi Kenn-

I don't remember the peanut butter but I remember wooden boxes. My uncles bought shotgun shells by the case and they came in wood boxes. Highly collectible now. And Velveeta cheese. And Highland 'tater chips in cans. Soda crackers in cans too.
The other day I was hearing some liar (I meant politician) blowing off about our petroleum dependence. I got to thinking about all the things that now come in plastic (made from petroleum) that used to come in tins or glass. Think about it. Metal and glass is in abundance. Both are easily recycled. Neither need petroleum. When I was young, some cans and jars never made it to the trash. They were saved and re-used.

No fads-

Anyone remember any fad toys when you were kids? Seems to me fads are more recent. When I was a high schooler certain things were ''in'' like poodle skirts. I never had one. LOL.
As a kid though, it was bikes, BB guns, electric trains etc year after year. Fad items like hula hoops came later.
When I was in about the 6th or 7th grade ball point pens became common. Until then we used fountain pens. There wasa big bottle of ink on a window sill of the classroom for all to use, or you could bring your own. Somewhere around that time transistor radios became a fad. Leather army surplus ammo pouches were popular with some girls as a small purse. Anyone else remember?

Ruggy

Yes I remember a lot of those things.
I have a Hopalong Cassidy setting on his horse Topper with a hat that comes off and it is made of plastic.
I also have a solid cast iron rabbit that is 10 to 12 inches tall.
I lost most of my things at age 14 when our house burned and some kind person threw a few of my things out the window of my room as it was the last part of the house to burn.
