Thank you for your translation and reasoning.   I had translated it as "foreign auto captured".   That doesn't give the conotation you intended.   My German isn't good enough to really get into it.   Fremden always meant foreign when I heard it used.   I think that's the meaning on all those signs along the roads that say "Fremden Zimmer".   I understood it could mean "stranger" in some contexts.

You have to really use a language to get all the idioms correct. Gross can mean big, large, great and grand for instance but you have to use the language to know when to use in each situation.

A German tranlated Gross Herzog to Big Duke rather than Grand Duke for me once. 

Also we would never say Bigfather for Grand father.

It's always big toe never large toe or great toe.   They're endless.
