Malodery's definitions are the standard lib "talking point" and are not true.

Here is the real difference between present day U.S. liberals and conservatives:

Liberals believe the government should attempt to solve as many of our public and personal problems as possible and that those in power should have the authority to confiscate everyone's private property as much as needed in order to fund this mandated charity and meddling.  They believe more regulation is better (as opposed to individual liberty).

Conservatives believe the government  should be limited as much as possible in order to free up the individual citizens and allow them to solve their own problems on a more localized level as much as possible.

Conservatives believe in liberty and the original intent of the constitutional framers.  Liberals only believe in liberty that advances their cause.  Libs believe the constitution should be interpreted to reflect the morality and fads of the moment.

Liberals believe the federal government is wise.  Conservatives do not.

Here are some of the things Barak Obama has actually blamed for the financial mess he can't seem to do anything about:

The Tea Party
Political gridlock
ATM machines
Republicans
Paul Ryan
Eric Cantor
John Boehner
The Tsunami in Japan
Greece
Italy
Too little government spending (no really, he did say this.)
Too few taxes
The debt debate
George W. Bush
Standard and Poor's
Wealthy people who want to keep what they earned
Oil companies
Ireland
Slurpees
Portugal
The War in Iraq
The War in Afghanistan
The heat wave in the midwest
Health care costs
A lack of government subsidized green energy
Math errors
Corporate jet owners
The Gulf oil spill
Millionaires and billionaires
Rich fat cats
Wall Street
Hedge fund managers
Some car that can't get out of the ditch
The debt limit
Congress and their resistance to spending more on stimulus programs
Vacationing in Las Vegas
The American form of representative democracy
People who don't eat their peas
And just yesterday: America going "soft" and losing its competitive edge

Everything but himself and his cronies

In short, government and all those who want to run it for the bennefit of themselves.

The Left Right Paradigm is Over: Its You vs. Corporations

Not some new revelation but good to see the thought being shared.

Source: http://www.ritholtz.com

But my bottom line is this:  If you see the world in terms of Left & Right, you really aren’t seeing the world at all . . .

Mobay,
The definitions of left and right are not precise and mean different things to different people.   I think I can still see the whole world, or at least try my best, and still define it into left and right components.

Define left as those who believe in fairness and equality and individual liberty.

Define right as those who believe in greed, selfishness and the concentration of power.

I think that works in a very basic form.

A majority of individuals fall into the former category.

Corporations mostly fall into the latter category.   But they have their allys in individuals, witting and unwitting.

do you not see the corporate take over of the government. who got bailed out and who got stuck with the bill, while the two parties blame each other the corporations, banks and their bought and paid for elected officials are destroying this country. Nafta, who got cheaper labor and who lost their jobs, the wars, who is over there dying and who is raking it in!!! the stimulus and qe1 and 2 helped who get richer and who is stuck paying for it!!!!

Oh trust me sir mobaydave. It's all a matter of perspective. I saw it from day one. But once they control our leaders they simply control everything. So to your question, yes I do see it. But there must be a sound representation in government that will put them back among those right here, jobless Americans who worked for them and supported their wealth building until they got representation who gave them what they really wanted. SUPER wealth and the power in washington to get more and keep it while the rest of just get screwed. Corporations would be powerless if our electeds did their jobs for once. Why is there a super pac and c-4 system in place. Because our leaders put them in place. Not the evil corporation, it was up to our leaders to keep focussed on America not corperica. And, I tell you too. If bozobama is behind any more free trade then he too has taken the wrong lack of common sense pill. As you pointed out too, the stimulous did nothing for America under bush. It was purely for bankers and wall street. There was some good out of obama's signature in stimulous, but as you say, it's all our money in the first place. Robbed peter to pay paul is all we did with either bill.
