There are many things we don't know about this case.  But there are also many things that we do know.

We know that a 6' 3" teenager who was suspended from school for marijuana possession was confronted by a 5' 10" man, and that somehow the teenager ended up shot.  We know that the media immediately jumped to the conclusion that this was a "white on black" hate crime.  We know that the police followed the law when the shooter, who has a carry permit, reported to them that the teenager attacked him.  We know that Florida has a "no retreat" law, and that if he was attacked, he was within his right to protect himself with deadly force.  We know that predictably, the snakes and leeches in society like Al Sharpton instantly got involved and began to inflame the race talk, much as they did in the Duke lacrosse team story.  We know that we've never seen the two people involved pictured in any media as Ned has presented them here.  We know that the new Black Panther party has offered a 10,000$ reward for the murder of the shooter, and that neither the President or anyone in his administration has condemned that act or sought to charge those responsible.

And we know that people like Mallory will defend this poor excuse for a President no matter how stupid his actions.

This is a good concise post, Nigel.  All valid points, and the more news that comes out, the more interesting this becomes.  Now we learn that the young man was suspended from school three times, including on for possession of drugs and another for possession of burglary tools and women's jewelry.  The media is now even beginning to report the more recent pictures of the young man, complete with his gangsta gold teeth and obscene gestures, as opposed to the five year old school pictures. Certainly all of this had little bearing on the 20 second confrontation with Mr. Zimmerman, but does make it much easier to believe his version of the events which included the young man attacking him with punches, then pounding his head on the ground.

His being suspended had no bearing?  Such a ridiculous statement.  It is a tremendous indicator of his character, which we are led to believe by his mother and the media was faultless.

And this 'watch guy' knew that he had been suspended? Give me a break already. First of all the 'watch guy' had been told NOT to follow the kid. On the very same 911 call the 'watch guy' had made remarks to the effect that this kid was suspicious.

I never heard his parents say that he was 'faultless'.

And you apparently know that the man approached the guy in some fit of racist anger?

I don't have a clue as to what the 'watch guy' did when he left his vehicle and approached the kid - nor do you. The kid had told his girlfriend on the cell phone that this guy was following him and indicated that it was worrisome.

Or did he merely exit his vehicle and question him regarding his presence in a neighborhood plagued by recent robberies, which is what the two police officers in my neighborhood urge us to do. What would I think if approached?  I suppose I'd think this guy is after some answers, and I'd better give him some. You apparently believe that "fight or flight" were the only options. I certainly wouldn't think of throwing punches

Since neither of is black or 17 and in a fairly unfamiliar neighborhood we cannot in all honestly say what we would do in that situation. I merely offered some options. The 'watch guy' outweighed the kid by 100 pounds. His decision probably should have been 'flight' and run like hell. If we are to believe the story of the 'watch guy' he chose to fight as he felt threatened.

But according to the shooter, that was the choice the guy made.

You want so badly to believe the stories created by the liberal media, but it just doesn't add up.

This has nothing to do with wanting to believe the liberal media. This is the ability to see that ther are several scenarios which have possibilities, which in reality, should have been investigated.

Well then I'm glad you finally agree with me that the liberal media has presented only one possible scenario. And you don't have to be 17 and black to understand it.  Once again you, like Sharpton and Jackson and Obama, prefer to reduce it all to a matter of race.

You should be ashamed.

I beg your pardon SL, I do not reduce it all to a matter of race. I don't care if the kid were a lovely shade of green, when the 911 operator told the 'watch guy' not to follow him why did he continue to follow and even get out of his vehicle? When the kid told his girlfriend on the cell phone that he was worried about this guy following him, that says to me and should say to you that this is not a good situation and rapidly 'going south' The kid normally resides in south Florida, where violence is the order of the day so I am certain that he learned that he must learn to protect himself. A perfect set up for a very bad situation.

We can all say what WE would do in the situation, but WE are not either of those two individuals and anytime an unarmed person is shot by an armed individual, there should at least be an investigation. I read article in our papers about law enforcement placed on some kind of non-working status after a shooting while the investigation is underway.

BTW - talk about the kid being suspended, as NO bearing on that night, just as the past record of the 'watch guy' has no bearing. Right?I am NOT defending the liberal media, sharpton, jackson or obama, I am saying that we are gettting a very small glimpse of a very large picture and shouldn't be the judge and jury without having an investigation.

I agree regarding our inability to judge this case with what we know now.  But, what makes you think that there is no investigation?

In criminal cases, the normal procedure is the following:

An investigation is conducted by the police or sheriff's department (etc.).  This can take a few minutes or many months or years.

The evidence is discussed with the city or county prosecuter.

The prosecuter decides whether or not to procede.

If it procedes, the evidence is presented to a grand jury.

The grand jury decides whether to indict or not.

The case then procedes or is dropped based upon that grand jury decision.    etc.
