Iowa Field

Posted in: Muscatine

Well I see by the journal that the residents in the area of  Iowa Field got their way. I think it's a great idea to make it a park. Lets start with maybe a dozen basketball courts well lighted of course and maybe lets see half a dozen bike/skateboard ramps and jumps. I am sure the residents of the area will enjoy the yelling and noise of basketballs hitting the ground to all hours that we people downtown endure from the "park" at the riverfront. Great idea lets give the people who hangout down there a new place to go and people in the area of Iowa field a new pleasure of their green space. Welcome to the world.

I have an engineering friend who came here from Kansas City to work at Lewis Bros for a contract he was doing. He works out alot and went to the riverfront and tried to enter a take up game of basketball for a workout. The blacks who had control of the site literally ran him off, calling him names, and said not to come back; it was their court. He said he could play anywhere with anyone in Kansas City and was stymied that he met that kind of racial tension in Muscatine. Yea; let's expand the grab-ass racial ownership of playing in parks with no control or response from the city.

That is one of the most stupid statements I have ever heard.  Did you ever consider that this man was 7-4" tall, and was playing with Jr. High kids, max height 5-4"?

I drive by the Musser Park skate board ramps at least 4 times each day and seldom see anyone using them.  Where you can see skateboarding is at Kent-Stein.  There, the kids ride their boards along the tops of picnic tables.  Makes me wonder why we spent all that money.  Also, the " Boyz " who claimed ownership of our riverfront BB courts sound like some of the riff-raff sent to Iowa from our friends in Il. who can no longer afford to house them.  This has become a real problem for many eastern Ia. communities like Ia. City, Burlington, Dav., and Clinton.  It's called "Greyhound Therapy".  Just export the trouble makers.  Problem solved.
