IDF soldiers kill 1 Palestinian, wound at least 10 at Gaza-Israel border 2 days after ceasefire

One adult has been killed and at least 10 teenagers injured after Israeli soldiers opened fire at the Gaza-Israel border, Gaza medical authorities claimed.

The incident happened east of the city of Khan Yunis in southern Gaza.

The clashes erupted after a group of Palestinian farmers wandered into the disputed 300-meter buffer zone along the border, Al Jazeera reported.

The story speculates that the farmers may have entered the buffer zone to check on their crops after hearing a news report claiming that travel restrictions had been lifted for the area.

In a separate, contradictory account, the group approached the border fence to salvage scrap from an Israeli army jeep damaged during the conflict, AP quoted a Gaza health official as saying.

The deceased was identified as 20-year-old Anwar Qudaih, Gaza-based journalist Harry Fear reported.

An Israeli army spokesperson did not confirm the shootings. He claimed that Israeli soldiers fired warning shots after "disturbances" broke out on the Palestinian side of the Gaza border early on Friday.

This incident is the first disruption of a shaky ceasefire. The shooting comes two days after Israeli troops and Hamas fighters laid down arms following eight days of heated conflict.

The IDF bombardment of Gaza and the retaliatory shelling of Israel by Hamas mortar and rockets both ended on Wednesday night. Hostilities in the region broke out when the IDF assassinated Hamas military leader Ahmed Jabari on November 14. Over 140 Palestinians and five Israelis died in the conflict.

While Israel has existed as a nation several times...there has NEVER been a free nation called "Palestine".
Not much is known of the earliest settlers in the area.
They  arived between 12,000 and 10,000 years ago.

Around 2,000 BCE Semitic groups settled the area displacing the original inhabitants.
Between 1,800 and 1,500 BCE Semites from Mesopotamia called Hebrews arrived and started displacing the Semites that were already there (collectively called "Canaanites" ).

Around 721 BCE Assyria conquered Israel.
Babylonia conquered the area around 586 BCE.
Persia conquered the area around 536 BCE.
The Greeks conquered the area in 331 BCE.

In 167 BCE the Jews revolted and drove the Greeks out.
They re-established their kingdom, calling it "Judah".

In 63 BCE the Romans conquered the area and named their new Roman province "Judea".
In 135 CE the Romans drove the Jews out of Jerusalem and remaned their province "Palaestina"
after "Philistia"...a colony of refugee Greeks that had once existed in the area.

In the 300's CE control of the region shifted from Rome to Byzantium.

From the 600's until 1517 the region was conquered and re-conquered by
various Arab powers.

In 1517 the region was annexed by the Ottoman Empire which maintained control until 1918.

In 1918 the Treaty of Balfour divided the Ottoman Empire into smaller countries.
-  A Turkic homeland which became known as The Republic of Turkey in 1922
-  an Arab country - Persia - later called Iraq
-  an Arab country - Iran
-  an Arab country - Syria
-  an Arab country - Lebanon
-  Parts of what became Saudi Arabia - Arab
-  Parts of what became Yemen - Arab
-  Trans-Jordan - now called Jordan - Arab
-  and one last region that the treaty required to be set aside as a Jewish homeland.

The intended Jewish homeland was given to the British Empire to administer until such time as the locals were ready for independence.
The British named their new administrative territory "Palestine".

In 1948 the British turned control of the region over to the local government.
One of the first acts of the government was to name their new nation "Israel"...and the Arabs have been whinning constantly since then.

The Jews did NOT "steal" Arab lands.
The League of Nations created several Arab nations and one Jewish nation as a means of dissolving the Ottoman Empire.

Israeli Negotiator: Hamas Commander Was Assassinated Hours After Receiving Truce Deal from Israel

http://www.democracynow.org/2012/11/16/israeli_negotiator_hamas_commander_was_assassinated

Israel broke an informal ceasefire on Wednesday by assassinating Hamas military commander Ahmed Jabari in an air strike. The Israeli peace activist Gershon Baskin, who helped mediate talks between Israel and Hamas in the

deal to release Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit, has revealed Jabari was assassinated just hours after he received the draft of a permanent truce agreement with Israel, which included mechanisms for maintaining the ceasefire. Baskin, the founder of the Israel/Palestine Center for Research and Information, joins us from Jerusalem. We also speak with Palestinian journalist Mohammed Omer based in Gaza.
