You’ve given us a near perfect illustration of the modern conservative. SELFISH! Their attitude is the IDOT may be required to serve 3 million citizens of Iowa but they better not interfere with what I want. I contribute a pittance to their operations, reluctantly, probably under protest, hate those high gas taxes, but I own them. They serve me. SELFISH!.

Nationally, we have a government that serves 300 million citizens but conservatives don’t feel obligated to give up any of their behavior options if some regulation interferes with what they want to do.  Their attitude is, I’ll waste whatever I feel like. I’ll pollute as much as I care to.   I should only have to pay for as much government as I feel like.   I have no obligation for the well being of others.   If some of my activities interfere with them, tough.   I should be allowed to sell any product I feel like without any regulations on quality or danger.   I should be allowed to take advantage of any fool that I want to.   It’s their fault if they’re not smart enough to know I’m a crook.

But if there’s a wildfire threatening my home, they better act to protect me, yes me.   If a hurricane destroys my community, they better help rebuild it.   Especially my house.   If I get sick, really sick, they better help me get better with good medicine, good hospitals, and good doctors.   I don’t deserve any phony elixirs or quacks to treat me.

What a wonderful place it would be if run by true conservatives.
