Megyn Kelly Confronts Dick Cheney: “History Has Proven That You Got It Wrong” About Iraq

The Age of Stupid

So many people assume that the solution to tyranny and oppression must involve doing something to "government" (elections, petitions, protests, revolutions, whatever). But the problem of authoritarianism--and the solution, too--is entirely mental. (You'd have to be completely "mental" to believe in "government," but that's not what I meant.) Most people can't quite process the idea that the ultimate and final solution to oppression and tyranny is this:

1) Stop thinking anyone has the right to rule you.
2) Stop talking as if anyone has the right to rule you.
3) Stop acting as if anyone has the right to rule you.

This solution doesn't rule out hiding, or passive resistance, or forcible resistance. It also doesn't rule out complying with violent thugs out of self-preservation. But it does rule out calling the thugs "law-makers" and "law-enforcers," or treating them like your rightful lords and masters. What people choose to DO once they have escaped mental enslavement will vary wildly, as will the effectiveness of their actions. But the actions are secondary, and in the long run, not even all that important. What matters is how MANY people give up their faith in the cult of "government."

Suppose there were 1,000,100 people living in some place, a hundred of whom thought they had the right to rule all the others, but none of the other million believed that. What would those million people need to do in order to avoid being oppressed by the hundred? Nothing. If the hundred weren't imagined to be "authority" or "government," they wouldn't even have any power in need of resisting. If the hundred were dumb enough to try to rule by open brute force, they would all be dead before more than 0.1% of the million even knew anything was happening.

If enough of the people think they should be free, they will be. If they don't, they won't. The problem and the solution are 100% psychological/moral/philosophical. Larkin Rose!
