The truth is that far from being the poor victim it likes to portray itself as, Israel is in fact the most aggressive and belligerent nation in the region, having invaded pretty much everyone it shares a border with.

If the American people are already so corrupted and spiritually crushed that they do not raise a hand, frivolously trusting in a questionable faith in lawful order in history; if they surrender man's highest principle, that which raises him above all other God's creatures, his free will; if they abandon the will to take decisive action and turn the wheel of history and thus subject it to their own rational decision; if they are so devoid of all individuality, have already gone so far along the road toward turning into a spiritless and cowardly mass--then, yes, they deserve their downfall. Today it would appear that the people of America are a spineless, will-less herd of hangers-on, who now--the marrow sucked out of their bones, robbed of their center of stability--are waiting to be hounded to their destruction. So it seems, but it is not so. Rather, by means of a gradual, treacherous, systematic abuse, the system has put every man into a spiritual prison. Only now, finding himself lying in fetters, has he become aware of his fate. Therefore every individual, conscious of his responsibility as a member of Christian and Western civilization, must defend himself against the scourges of mankind, against fascism and any similar system of totalitarianism. Offer passive resistance--resistance--wherever you may be, forestall the spread of this atheistic war machine before it is too late, before the last cities have been reduced to rubble, and before the nation's last young man has given his blood on some battlefield for the hubris of a sub-human. Do not forget that every people deserves the regime it is willing to endure."

"I don't get it, grandpa," Sammy said with a puzzled look on his face. "Why would grown people believe in something like that?"
"I know it seems weird," Arthur answered with a furrowed brow, remembering back to his younger years, "but back then everyone was taught to believe that special pieces of paper and special rituals gave some people the right to rule everybody else."
"That's like believing in the Tooth Fairy," Sammy responded. "People just went along with it, even when the rulers were making wars and stealing from everyone? People thought that was okay?"
"Well, not everyone thought it was okay." Arthur thought back to the the turmoil and violence which had occurred during the fall of the last empire, as those in power had resorted to widespread, outright brutality in a last vain attempt to preserve their power. "But of course, the rulers would try to hurt or silence any who pointed out the silliness of it all."
"How long did this go on?" Sammy asked.
"Well, people had been bowing to one kind ruling class or another for several thousand years." Arthur gazed up at the clear sky. "Several thousand years," he repeated quietly to himself. He had lived to see the end of it after all. "It was only about fifty years ago, not long before your daddy was born, when a lot of people really started waking up, and started seeing how insane it all was."
"It's hard to believe that those scary stories about war ever really happened," Sammy said, looking at the crumbling stone buildings all around them.
"Oh, they really happened all right," Arthur answered, almost in a whisper. "And I am thankful every day that you'll never have to live through something like that." He smiled down at the ignorant but curious child. "To you, they will only be stories, and you don't need to be scared of stories."
"Why don't they fix this place up?" Sammy said, scanning the ruins which stretched as far as the eye could see. "Why not take this ugly stuff away and build something nice?"
"I suspect that when the last of us who lived through it are gone, when it stops being memories and becomes only stories, then this place will be made into something a lot prettier," Arthur answered. "And that will be just fine with me," he added with a smile.
They continued with their walk through the ruins. "What was this one?" Sammy asked, pointing to a long pile of huge broken stones.
"That was called the Washington monument," Arthur answered. The two walked silently after that, the sun beginning to set in the west.
