Don't look now, but there are two lots cleared out on Big Oak Lane in Highland Woods. One of the lots is very close to the creek and is loaded with rock. Unfortunately, all the trees have been cut down already. There is a rumor that a third house is going in down there, but I can't see how it would be possible. I hope someone is reading these.

The County

Apparently the County is involved with the new development as far as checking into the permits. The house in the middle was OK'd for construction. Last I heard, the permit for the creek property was on hold. Am I talking to myself?
New construction

I heard through other neighbors that the Civic Assoc. was left in the dark about these parcels and the new construction. What I want to know is... how did the construction company get permission to BLAST?? When we put in the pool, we were told companies (at least pool companies) didn't blast anymore because it would mean they had to get permission from every neighbor. Is there a way to track down who is doing the blasting in case any of us have problems? (for example, we open our pool and find a huge crack as a result of the blasting)

New Homes

I contacted the County Permit Department and logged a complaint. This meant that the County was supposed to call me back and of course...they didn't. The builder is supposedly a well known builder in North Wilmington who is notorious for doing what he is doing. (Clearing out lots before anyone has the chance to question it) There is a hold on his creek property permit. I would suppose that is because the County is looking into whether he is violating any rules. He has the OK to build on the middle property. I, like you, was wondering how he was able to just go blasting without having any authorities there for safety. If I were you, I would call the County and see what they have to say. There are links to the County on this website. I seem to just run into dead ends. I figure by the time we get somewhere on this...he will be done building. (and I am sure he knows that and that is how he operates) Glad to see you joined us online.
