I hope people will post their comments about the electronic video billboards. The executive board will be meeting with several other neighborhood associations on March 15th. It would help to know what your thoughts are.

I share your concern about the electronic billboard that was recently installed at the southeast corner of NE Broadway and 28th Ave.
It is a major distraction to motorists. I worry about the distraction leading to accidents. I view it as unwanted visual pollution that assaults passersby with harsh flashing advertisements.

This new hyper-billboard has snuck on the scene at the same time that we in the neighborhood have been working cooperatively with local businesses to reduce the number of billboards in our neighborhood.

I would like to join with other neighbors to see how we can get this removed and at the same time, request that the City Council restrict these in other neighborhoods as well.

It saddens me that a local business allowed this to be set up on their property, without any input from the neighborhood residents (business as well as citizen residents).

This past weekend I drove past the billboard at 28th and B'way on several occasions, and it was not active. This was both on Sat. and Sun., has anyone noticed whether or not it is on this week?

As for Michael's comments, a few bits of info. GW Performance, the business operated on the lot where the sign was installed, does not own the property, and likely didn't control the sign's installation. The property owner's live here in Portland, but not in the neighborhood. I think writing them letters would be one idea.

The sign as it stands is legal, so it doesn't seem we can "force" them to take it down. As was pointed out in the GPNA newsletter, targeting the advertizers who use the medium seems like a good tactic.

The other info. I'd like to offer is that Multi-light, at the corner of 33rd and NE B'way has also applied for a permit for an electronic billboard. Since it has not yet been approved and installed, it seems like a good idea to let Multi-light know how we, as a neighborhood, feel about their plan to install an electronic billboard on their property. Maybe we can prevent that one from going up.

I would like to be part of any action to prohibit an/or remove the electronic billboards. I find them offensive to the eye and distracting to my mission of driving safely. I will be writing letters to the advertisers. What else would be advised. I strongly support a GPNA stance that would oppose any current and future signs of this type.
