It?’s amazing how many of the members of the NW Republican Club want to tell their tales. They are nervous as they are seeing the postings on this site and witnessing the results of speaking out or staying true to the founding principles of the club instead of the daily political principles. Cup of coffee or a couple of beers and the truth begins to emerge. My husband and I went to dinner with a couple of ladies who are members last night.
It seems like there is a connection between Brian Sauer and Mitch O?’Brien outside this zoning board disgrace. It seems that O?’Brien is a founding member of the club. It seems that Sauer is the current president. It seems that Hackworth and O?’Brien were the committee to get people to run for officers in the club. It seems that Hackworth and O?’Brien talked Sauer into running for president and supported him. Real bad move, eh guys?
In another posting there was reference to a deal made between O?’Brien and this club regarding endorsements. Well the deal was between president Sauer and O?’Brien. Since O?’Brien helped write the constitution and bylaws back when Sauer was still in high school, O?’Brien told Sauer that he understood that the club couldn?’t endorse anyone but republicans. Sauer said he conferred with past presidents (Fix, Farmer and Elsea) and yes indeed they couldn?’t endorse non-republicans. O?’Brien said that since his slate had two independents he would not be seeking the club?’s partisan endorsement in this nonpartisan race so when the club passed out slate cards with their endorsements as they did in the past it wouldn?’t serve to confuse voters. Sauer said this was agreeable.
The endorsement process began in late August although to hear the story told, the endorsements were already decided far in advance. Now is where a new connection is made in all this. Shaver approached the two independents on O?’Brien?’s slate to offer his full support to them if they applied for endorsement of this club. Also approaching these two were other elected officials in the city and others. Lots of pressure. One of the candidates was forthcoming with the slate as to seeking the club endorsement while the other told no one until the day before his interview. No one, not even O?’Brien who had laid it all on the line to keep this slate together. Of these two, the forthcoming one sits on the sidelines with O?’Brien and the secretive one sits on council. The one on the sidelines is now awaiting his punishment like O?’Brien received.
So you?’ve got Sauer completely blindsiding O?’Brien after O?’Brien was the one to approach him for the presidency of this club and after putting the honor and integrity of the club ahead of his own agenda. How?’s that for a fine thank you? Then you have Sauer running Fix?’s campaign to oust O?’Brien as punishment. Then you have Sauer filling O?’Brien?’s seat on the zoning committee after he was fired as punishment.
