Topic of the Week

Posted in: PATA
We're going to do the topic of the week a little different this week and maybe the next depending upon the responses we get...

With the upcoming election on May 2nd, we thought it would a good idea to allow the candidates to have an open forum here to tell the readers of the PATA website why we should vote for them. We are pretty sure that the candidates OR at least their supporters are readers of this blog. So here is their opportunity to speak. Granted, this may take a while for any of them to respond, so in the mean time we can also use this as a way to take an informal poll to see who the readers of PATA are planning to press the lever for.

Next week, we'll tackle the school levy issue on the ballot.

My two cents

Not voting for Blackwell - we have plenty of the religious right taking over this nation, he'll make not attending church each Sunday a felony

Not voting for Schaffer - what did he accomplish as a State Rep, I expect more of the same down the road for him

Voting for Kiger - we need less ''yes men'' in office. Kiger may be many things but a ''yes man'' is not one of them

Voting for Stebleton - while I think that he is a member of the notorious Republican Club, he seems a tad more distant than Farmer

Voting for Mowery - it's a coin flip here since Shaver dropped out

My cents as well

In looking at this upcoming election here are my thoughts on the races.

In the Senate race I have a hard time voting for Ron Hood or the other guy who is a councilman in Johnstown area over Tim Schaffer. While we might not all love Tim Schaffer he is the better option among these three. Ron Hood is the carpet bagger who took over for Householder and he is largely a yes man.

In the State Rep race my vote is going to Kyle Farmer. I am tired of country club republicans running this state into the ground and that is what you get with Stebelton. He has been around a long time and this is sort of his turn to run now, and that bugs me. Kyle is a teacher who is newer to the party. He is running an excellent grass roots campaign, and is working relentless amount of hours to win.

The Commisoners race I can't see any choice other than Elsea. Mike Kiger refuses to help public safety and that should be enough. Yes he has forecasted much better than the other two, but they are not up for re-election. I wish I knew what I did now about Jon and Judy though, and they don't have much longer. We need some serious people in that office, and Steve Elsea has fought long and hard to clean up this community and get rid of the crooks. I think he should deserve our vote for commisoner.

County Auditor, Barb Curtiss gets my vote, but in detail she is the lesser of two evils in my opinion. Put a strong candidate against her and Barb is done, she needs to get her act together and start doing her job, and not being a pesimist that it is to hard.

Then you have domestic court race. Laura Smith gets my vote for her 8 years almost 9 years of experiance in this court. She has been a magistrate under Judge Jackson, and handles many cases a day in this matter. Kathy Mowry talks about experiance, but child enforcment issues with ODJFS is one thing, but to sit in on cases and decide much of them as Laura Smith has done is experiance you can't make up.

That is my two cents on some of the local races.
