You're Both Right
I agree with all those who have posted on this subject. There is more room to build a maintenance facility at North. And we do need a place where vehicles can be repaired indoors and out of the weather. But there is no reason why all the buses must be parked there. Why not park some where we used to park buses, in the lot back behind the Central stadium? Buses were parked there for years, and no one seemed to mind. Parking buses in the Central parking lot, on the other hand, is a potential disaster, with baseball and softball season almost upon us. And parking all of the buses at North is unnecessary. Let's split them in half and park some in both places. We might even save a little more gas that way. By Yosemite Pam |

Behind Tiger Stadium no good
The area next to Ridgeview, where a maintenance ''facility'' is currently located, is not ideal for bus parking. Ridgeview desperately needs that space to accommodate parent pick up/drop off. Currently, the cars and the buses cross paths and kids have to walk between the buses to get to the cars. The principal (or other staff) has to be out there directing traffic. If that area near the stadium was available, a safer procedure could be put into place. I'd advocate parking as few buses as possible near Central. The railroad tracks get tied up with buses stopping there to check for trains, and the intersection at Hill Rd. & 256 is not kind to buses that need to turn there. |

An interesting point?
You say that the room is needed for parents picking up and dropping off their kids. If the kids were riding the buses, the parents wouldn't need to pick up and drop off, would they? Aren't all (almost) students serviced by a bus route? Under normal circumstances, shouldn't all (almost) students be riding the bus to and from school (extra curriculars exluded)? How full are the junior and senior high buses? Are they really needed? Are we getting our money's worth? |
