Schaffer or Hood?

Posted in: PATA
I received a flyer in the mail today from Tim Schaffer stating that his commitment to ethics is the reason I should vote for him.

Then I received a phone call from Ron Hood's campaign stating that his commitment to lower taxes and bringing back jobs to Ohio are the reasons I should vote for him.

I'm curious as to what the other Republicans on this site think.

After Hood's phone call I got to thinking about Schaffer's (how many - six?) years in office and what he has done. I know he voted for the state tax increases, and in the past he has talked about bringing jobs back to Ohio. He doesn't seem to be talking about any of those anymore.

From what I can see Schaffer is primarily pandering to the religious right (aka Russell Johnson's crowd) and trying to capitalize on ethics reform. Other than having it out for DeMastry and Fox, I don't know how he has contributed to ethics reform. If anyone does know, please post it.

I don't know anything about Ron Hood or his time in office. Does anyone out there have any light to shed on the topic?

Hood letter

I received a campaign letter from Hood, seems to me he is the Russell Johnson crowd...or Parsley candidate, I do not like it when attempting to control peoples beliefs, or bible beating so vote for me trumps fiscal responsiblity, jobs and a host of other problems we are facing, courtesy of the incumbents....

none of the above is my vote
Tax breaks from crooks only

Well if Ron Hood is saying he wants to cut taxes then he is not voting that way. Mr. Hood is from the Youngstown area. So how does a Republican get elected in a heavy democratic area? Well Mr. Hood lost his seat in the Ohio House from Youngstown in 2000.

Ron Hood has voted with the Democrats (70 to 80%) more than with the Republicans. He co-sponsored legislation with the democrats to give tax breaks to convicted felons. He opposed the 21% income tax break (HB 160) for law abiding citizens.

Ron Hood co-sponsored legislation to weaken the legal protections against convicted felons obtaining state professional licenses. Our school teachers are professional and they are required to have licenses.

So if you received a campaign brochure from Mr. Hood stating he will cut your taxes I suspect he thinks you have a police record.

Tim Schaffer is not an ally of Russell Johnson or Rod Parsley. In fact, he has been very out spoken about keeping Russell Johnson out of the Fairfield County Politics. Mr. Schaffer is pro-life. His warning of having the Russell Johnsons of world run the party will be the party's end have not been heard by all in the party. I suspect we will find the real answer on May 2nd. I am voting for Tim Schaffer.
