GODZILLA-Mart vs. Kroger and the Giant Eagle!
Don't over load us with stores

Although I am a capitalist at heart I do see a problem with the retailers in the U.S. and how they try to market there stores. The problem is that once one retailer find success at a corner or a location every one follows. I have never understand the strategy of putting all of these Kroger store along Refugee Road and at about 2 mile distances between the stores.

What the community risks is a bunch of empty stores along Refugee Road once they saturate the market. As we see with the empty Big Bear store that has sit empty for well over a year. Giant Eagle has reclaimed the original Kroger store location and they are redevelopment the store and not leaving it empty and an eye sore. For those that plan to live here long term allowing more retail under roof than the community can support will eventually end in empty eye sores and a raise in crime.

Before any more big box stores are allowed into the community I hope they are firmly supported by market studies and a long term ability of the community to support the stores. If we must wait a few years then we should wait. We have invested a huge amount of the taxpayers dollars into the North Taj Mahal. I would hate to see that all going to a waste land.
Not Quite

Neither Kroger's or Giant Eagle are ''big box'' stores. Walmart is the classic example. Two of the Kroger stores on Refugee Rd are replacement stores, the on Gender Rd replaced the one on Tussing and the Hill Rd store simply moved across the street to a bigger locaton. Only the Pick Rd store is new and was built to accommodate community growth.

The Big Bear store is empty because the realitor won't rent it for longer than a 2-year lease. I know I've tried. They are expecting something else to make a better offer, I suppose.
