MOU of 2005
PICKERINGTON CITY COUNCIL
TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 6, 2005
CITY HALL, 100 LOCKVILLE ROAD
REGULAR MEETING AGENDA
7:30 P.M.
B. RESOLUTION 2005-16R, ?“A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE A MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING WITH VILLAGE OF CANAL WINCHESTER AND VIOLET TOWNSHIP,?” First Reading, Wright. Mr. Wright moved to adopt; Mr. Wisniewski seconded the motion. Mr. Wright stated this will set up the ability for the City and the Township to discuss tax sharing possibilities and economic development. He stated this has been discussed over the years, and we are now going to sit down and see what we can do. He stated this is the first step to see if it is possible, how we can move toward it, and what would be required. Roll call was taken with Mr. Parker, Mrs. Riggs, Mr. O?’Brien, Mr. Wisniewski, Mr. Sabatino, Mr. Hackworth, and Mr. Wright voting ?“Yea.?” Motion passed, 7-0.
Now if Mr. Wright, who Gary Weltlich accused of putting the halt to the 2001 CEDA is saying this in 2005 and it failed what next? It sounds like the MOU passed in 2005 had everything in it that was needed to reach an agreement. In addition, the township?’s fair haired boy was negotiating for the City. I hear that Mike Sabatino and Cristie Hammond will be the new negotiators. The city council was unanimous in there support in September of 2005. It doesn?’t sound like that strong support is still there. Is it a lack of confidence in their negotiator or the other parties involved?
I am hearing that the three trustees are circulating around town comments that are disrespectful to the city council and probably if those comments get back to the council they are also counterproductive for a government saying they want to cooperate and then in public meetings blasting the City and its council. This is the same tactic used in 2001 and they are dusting off there tried and true method of negotiations.
Silence is golden and I think the City Council will come together for the good of the City residents and that includes all seven members of council and the Mayor. I am also sure there will be a complete airing of the issues before a decision is made. If it doesn?’t happen I will be very surprised.
If Pickerington doesn?’t return to the table then I am sure there will be good reasons why not. Could it be that it might not be cost effective for the City?’s tax dollars.
