What Should the School Board Do?

Posted in: PATA
Experience & facts

Sounds like he has a lot of experience over a lot of schools. What kind of experience & facts are your thoughts based on?

Perhaps a little more knowledge on the subject than the people on this site that think you can indefinately continue to cram over 10,000 + students into 11 buildings.

The Board of Education hasn't suggested we build buildings anywhere as small has Bainbridge has suggested. They've even stated they would expand both high school campuses before building a third complex.

Maybe you should go to a meeting and you could discuss your views.

You're Kidding, Right?

You say ''Sounds like he has a lot of experience over a lot of schools.'' I say ''Financial conflicts of interest''

You say ''What kind of experience & facts are your thoughts based on?''

Well, let's see. I'm a resident who hears what people in the community say. The disparity between North and Central is still a huge topic of discussion. You'll say it's just the parents, but it's not. The Central kids know they're second class citizens.

You say ''Perhaps a little more knowledge on the subject than the people on this site that think you can indefinately continue to cram over 10,000 + students into 11 buildings.''

Nobody is saying that. Some are saying put them in trailers and go after more operating money. Some are offering alternative building plans. Some are offering ways the Board of Education could build trust and credibility with the community. Apparently all of that has fallen on deaf ears. What a surprise.

You say ''The Board of Education hasn't suggested we build buildings anywhere as small has Bainbridge has suggested. They've even stated they would expand both high school campuses before building a third complex.''

I say you need to build trust and credibility before anyone will believe a word you say about high schools.

You say ''Maybe you should go to a meeting and you could discuss your views.''

I say what meeting are you talking about? A school board meeting? I've been to them. People address the board. Sometimes the board responds, sometimes they don't. It's whatever they feel like doing. They only hear what they want to hear anyway. I don't feel like wasting my time talking to a brick wall.

If you're talking about the school's rah-rah Committee for Responsible Schools, then no thanks. I've got better things to do with my time.

I'm sure all my comments will be promptly disregarded, just like all other comments of residents that board members disagree with. There's just no getting through to some people, and, unfortunately, they happen to sit on the school board.

Kidding - why don't u run?

Why don't you change the brick wall and run for school board.

There's one way to fix something you don't like. Be part of the solution.

Get involved don't just whine

It is so easy for people to get on this site and make all sort of uniformed statements about the schools and school board. Why not go to a meeting and become more informed. It is time for people to get over the differences in the two schools. It is time to move forward and do what is best for the community. What is done is done. Why are we allowing the past to keep us from make the right decisions now. I have not been completely happy with everything I have seen. I will tell you that now that I am more informed I better understand the decisions they are making. I am able to ask informed questions and challenge people if I think they are moving in the wrong direction. It is very easy to stand back, do nothing and then complain. It is much harder to get involved and try to be a part of the process. I have talked with many people abut the upcoming bond. I am amazed at the reasons people have for voting no. I have heard so many crazy uninformed reasons. I find it very frustrating.
