Any opinions on Mr. Ken Blackwell's 65% solution for our schools?
(65% of all money has to be spent in ths classroom)
Does it include things like:
transportation?
unfunded mandates?
school nurses?
extra cirriculars?
school counselors?
the cop in the hallway at the high schools?
the lady at the front desk?
play ground ladies?
lunch room monitors?
copier rental?
administrators?
custodial staff?
mops, brooms and vacuum cleaner bags?
(you get the idea)
Really, I am just wondering.......
Any school board members (current or past) out there want to comment on this?
By Wondering?

His plan=no plan
It's another crackpot suggestion of Blackwell's that he hopes to gain some votes from. See TEL - the republicans in the state had to save him from himself on that one and give him an out - now they've got the next crackpot suggestion to worry about.
Many of my votes will be for Republicans this fall, however not for Gov!

Strickland on Eduation?
I too am leary of a 65% solution. The state does not provide 65% of our district's funding why should they give mandates to funds they don't contribute? State bus subsidy's are being phased out so local monies will need to be diverted because we aren't going to stop transporting kids - at least I haven't heard we are...so that pulls money ''out of the classroom'' to cover that, something the district will have no choice about unless they choose to limit service to offset.
Given the lastest state report card, our school district isn't broken, why step in and treat everyone like the big 3 - Cleveland, Columbus & Cincinnati?
Giving up local control in a district such as Pickerington is a mistake.
That being said, at least I can say Blackwell has an education plan I don't like. I can't honestly tell you what Strickland's plan is - let alone have an opinion that it's better than what I know I don't like. Strickland's voting record is SCARY when it comes to taxes. You can look at the cost to educate students across districts in the State of Ohio on the Ohio Department of Education's website and realize that more money does not always = a better education.

''Taxin' Ted''
You have to look at the whole picture - not just a Yes or No vote on Tax Cuts.
Would he oppose a real tax cut to working class families that wasn't tied to a huge tax cut for those making millions of dollars? Hard to tell since he hasn't had the opportunity lately. He did support ending the marriage tax penalty in 2004 and supported the Tax relief and simplication that same year.
He opposed making the child tax credits permanant, however that same bill raised the phase-out START limit to $250K for married couples and $110 for single. Do people making $250K a year really need to have a child-tax credit? Being a ''big-spender'' or ''Pro-tax'' isn't just black and white on how one votes on a specific topic.
I have never voted Democrat in my entire life - this time I am and Ted has my support. Are there things about Ted that I'm not crazy about - absolutely, but when I look at the other choice it's a no-brainer.
