Times are changing

I believe in the very near future you will see an effort from the City residents to start the process to secede from the township and to form our own paper township and fire department.

Based on the number of fire and EMS runs in the city; the city could run their own department for around $2.5 Million.

In addition, once we find a way out of this stupid development agreement that Trustee Fix has put together we will still have the right to annex. I doubt the city would be very interested at this point in annexing all the way to US 33 but it would give the city councils in the future some limited options in providing needed services to the city.

I understand that the trustees are moving ahead with their plans to screw 40% of their constituency with this agreement. I think they all need to rethink that before making any new moves.

In a quick review of this posting it is filled with a lot of mis-information. I would favor forming a paper township to simply avoid future costs for growth both residential or commercial. Even if the City taxpayers were to break even on a fire department they could control their own costs for that department and determine what level of service they were willing to pay for. I believe the city taxpayers would receive 40% or close to that amount of the current Violet Township fire department assets. One advantage the city has is that its taxpayers would be able to use different forms of revenues to pay for the fire service. I believe the city would need to build a small station (2 EMS units) north of the rail line to improve response time. The City currently owns a number of parcels north of the rail line including around 11 acres where the police station is located. Slightly closer to the 256 corridor than the Violet FD Refugee station.

I have already signed the initiative being circulated to start that process.
