PATA received a press release issued from PLSD this morning to post to our website. It is a notification of public forums to allow residents to get involved in the search for a new district superintendent.
At the risk of sounding like we are editorializing, we feel it necessary to point out a few incongruities relating to dates.
* As you will note, the press release is dated December 18, 2006 and it was issued FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE.
* It was emailed to the press January 2, 2007.
* The dates of the forums are January 10 and 11, 2007.
* The publication deadline for two of the three local papers has passed and the press release will not appear until next Wednesday and Thursday. If you are like me, there is a good chance you will not receive the papers until Thursday or Friday.
* Only 45 minutes re permitted each session for public input for a total of 1 ?½ hours to allow residents and taxpayers to have a say in the future of this district.
Please pass this information on to your friends and neighbors to allow all of us to get involved in this very important process.

There's more
A notice was sent out to members of the PLSD District Office email list last night. It is copied below.
Notice that people who work in the school district get 75% of the input, while community/parents/students get 25%.
Also isn't it interesting that school district personnel get to speak at times that are convenient for them in their workday, yet community/parents/students have to give up their dinner hour (6-6:45) to have a say?
Now, I don't know about you, but I would love to be able to choose my own boss. The fact that this person is answerable to the entire community wouldn't matter to me one bit, if I could find a milquetoast to make my daily life less challenging.
It's typical academic elitism that, in a failing educational system compared to education world-wide, the academic elite keep promoting each other and slapping themselves on their backs.

READE IS WRONG
Thanks webmaster for posting this. I want to be at both sessions because I know in my heart that this Reade woman will be the one doing the hiring and I know in my heart that she is looking for ?“Lisa?’s Lapdog?” to lead us into the future.
Obviously the excuse for the late delivery will be the holidays but, as this board makes me suspicious by nature, I suspect the timing of the actual ?“immediate release?” is intentional.
If a public opinion campaign is possible, I nominate Jim Brink for board president. Jim is due his time. He has represented us well, or as well as can be expected, and we need him as the president through the difficult times ahead.
I am going to email the board members I know to solicit their help in getting Jim elected president of the board.
Please do the same if you agree. Even if you don?’t think Jim is the right guy but agree that READE IS WRONG, please email your thoughts to the other board members. This is an important decision.
Don?’t we have enough illicit activity on the city council and trustee board? Why not speak up to make a difference on the board?

Jim Brink
I agree that Jim Brink deserves his chance to serve as board president. The only real additional responsibility the title ''president'' gives to a board member is to run the meetings, and none of the board members knows Robert's Rules of Order better than Brink.
Lisa Reade is so clueless about how to run a meeting that other board members end up reminding her repeatedly during meetings what she has to do next.
She's even clueless about the fact that she's clueless!
