Proves the Point
I think this proves the point: the only effective way to block further annexations of Violet Township land by neighboring municipalities is a merger of the Township and the City of Pickerington.
This could take a while to accomplish, but to achieve the same result through annexations would take far longer, and would give Canal and Lithopolis more time to beat Pickerington to the punch.
Merger also would allow this community to take a unified and comprehensive approach to residential and commercial development. Too often, builders and developers have been able to play the City against the Township, and obtain waivers and concessions that benefit none of us.
Don't you think it's time for this community to take a good, careful look at merger?

Wrong Again, Pam
Proves what point? That you've been talking to officials that look at you with a blank stare and say , wow, a merger should be explored! And now 16 years you still live in township, probably not paying income tax, along with the other 20,000 + leeches, and you could not find any elected person that has even mumbled the word merger since you Canceled Lou Postage. Remember, you country folks provide more kids and less commercial developement. Proof you say? Then why is the new school in the township at capacity and only 1 subdivision from the city of Pickerington (Melrose) goes there? Proof you say? You whine the city annexes all our commercial developement? We in the city see how the trustees have handled commercial. Built houses all along 70. Stood in the way of the city annexing to 33 to do something of value.
Do you, Pammie, see what lies north of Refugee Road? Woodsfield, Summerfield, Mallard Pond, Eastchester, Ashley Creek, Haaf Farms, and on and on. All of the single family north of Refugee is in the township! We don't want or need any more in the south of you kind.
Jump in your model T, grab your MERGER IDEA, and drive to the next meeting so when you bring it up and then leave, Canal, Violet, and Pickerington royalty can all shake their heads behind your back and say, too bad he's not in his right mind.

With all respect, I believe you missed my point, which was that a merger is the surest and quickest way to prevent further incursions into Violet Township by Canal, Lithopolis and the like. I certainly was not saying that the township is better than the city, that the city has contributed more students to the schools than the township, or that township residents do not free ride on city improvements, and vice versa.
Indeed, the avoidance of such free riding is one more reason for a merger. Your reaction also shows how divisive the current division of city and township can be. Such anger, which seems to be growing, is just not productive. A merger, I believe, would help us get beyond all of that.

Dearest Pam
And you misunderstand me. I'm not angry. I just give up. You're set in your merger idea. And no one will change your mind. You say you think a merger is the surest and quickest way.
Respectfully Pam, you're nuts. With your self admitted 16 years of talking and thinking about it and no one in office even leaning that way, well, you keep talking and thinking that and guys like Fix will take advantage of it.
I think we neeed a merger. What a great epitaph for the city.
