Why is it that Canal Winchester can stop around for police services but Pickerington even can't talk about a different fire service? Maybe we need another charter change or.... maybe it's already signed and nobody knows about it? Seems like the unnamed group was able to keep the one quite, maybe they have another one waiting in the wings???
Interesting....
From the Southeast Messenger. They've been hitting some home-runs lately haven't they?
?“It has to do with saving your residents over $500,000 over three years,?” asserted Hummel, who said because Canal Winchester residents are already paying the township for a permanent police levy, Madison could roll part of that amount into the bid and offer a lower contract. ?“It?’s a shared response. We?’re here in the village. We patrol the village, but we don?’t patrol regularly because of the contract (with Fairfield County).?”
Fairfield County proposed $772,172 for yearly service and Franklin County submitted a bid for $884,316 in 2005. Although Madison Township?’s initial bid was $823,949, once they gave a $229,070 revenue adjustment for a permanent police levy paid by Canal Winchester residents, it brought the final bid amount down to $594,879. Hummel was asked why the township did not discount the full amount of the levy, which is approximately $404,000. The trustee said the remainder of the levy covers support costs and not personnel.
