So let me get this straight, we have a Mayor that came into office on his righteous white horse labeling everyone in his way as corrupt, immoral or down right crooks. Much like a person living in a glass house and throwing stones. Yet all of the embarrassing incidents in the last few years since he has been Mayor have been about him. The stories about him are what have been the controversy not that someone leaked them. He is reaping what he sowed years ago to get into office himself.

What makes these stories news worthy is that the news paper and the TV all like to catch hypocrites now and then. As the Mayor he is living in a glass house and he has not been able to live up to the scrutiny. Now to suggest that someone set him up is ridiculous. That building has been empty for months now and the Mayor had moved into his new office back in April. The fact that neighbors would not react to blowing trash into their yards, and to suggest that somehow these neighbors or the political opponents had something to do with ''setting up the Mayor'' is a stretch for any of you. For the supporters of Mayor Shaver at some time along the way you will need accept the fact that he is very forgetful, and many times he is very irresponsible in both his comments and his actions. I think most of you know that and are at a loss when those indiscretions come up. It may be time for all of you to face the music.

I guess for those of us that can feel secure that none of our information is blowing around downtown Pickerington then it is probably funny. However for those that have used the Shaver Legal services and you may have divorce records or sensitive medical information that you were trying to recover from then it probably is not very funny. The fact of whether it is funny or dead serious it is the fault or the neglect of David Shaver.

With the state losing more personal data yesterday this story dove tailed right into the carelessness of people that are custodians of our information.

Simply put if you are going to talk the talk then you need to be able to walk the walk.

False Assumtions

Everyone knows that sensitive information should be handled carefully especially given the recent problems with info stolen from the State. The Mayor is not a careless person and apparently moved two trucks full of client files to storage. The records in the dumpster (if there was sensitive info there) were thrown away in error. To inflate and distort the facts serves your political agenda. Point made.

In error?

He told the reporter he hired high school kids to throw them away. How is that in error?

How is it the records were still at his office months after he left - in an UNLOCKED storage shed?

His reckless actions have once again caught up to him as so many times in the past!

Let's be honest here

Let me get this straight. We have a Mayor that has probably tons of private client information and it is left in an unlocked storage shed. Some of that information consisted of social security numbers, medical history, and bank account information on his clients. If that is your information am sure you would be concerned about first blowing around Pickerington for a few days and then out in a land fill for a few more days.

I know a few weeks ago my bank had a shred-it truck come to the bank and they allowed us to dispose of up to ten small banks for free. Mostly bank statements and other documents that had dates of birth, credit card information, bank account numbers, social security numbers and in some cases medical information. I am sure all of this information was in those old files of a medical malpractice attorney. That information never expired or gets out of date. I have had a SS# since I was 14. My kids were given SS# at birth.

Now if the Mayor was responsible he was have had a Shred-it truck or some other company come out to his old office and shred that information for the protection of everyone. Putting it in a dumpster on a public owned alley is like broadcasting it to the world.

It is a sad day when either the Mayor or his supporters try to make excuses for the lack of judgment and try to blame it on others ONCE AGAIN.

I can't speak for all but I know Brian and Ted won't use this as a campaign issue. They have too much class. This is a personal issue and I don't feel it would be appropriate to use in any campaign. I am sure they feel the same way.

However for those that have watched the ABC 6 news the last couple of nights you can come to your own conclusions about the Mayor's level of responsibility and his ability to supervise teenagers in a menial task. Now how does this translate to more complicated tasks with multiply levels and personalities?
