Pickerington Area Taxpayers Alliance

Sticking situation

donation

I don't think sending the letter to Barb Slaven was a mistake. If a listing of vendors was requested and used for the mailing list, that list would include one time vendors as well as those with on-going contracts. It's reasonable that she gets a letter requesting a donation. Just because she's not currently an active consultant to the district doesn't mean she won't be a future consultant.

As for the $1500 figure requested, at first I thought it was presumptuous to include a suggested amount, but then I realized that most requests I get from charities put a suggested donation amount. And, I'm sure there have been some local contributors that have contributed more than $1500 in the past.

Overall, it's a great tactic to go to vendors for support of the levy campaign. Residents of the district stand to lose a lot (property values, educational quality) if the levy fails. But, so do realtors, developers, builders, local businesses, vendors to the district, etc. Let those that profit from the district support the levy financially!
Sounds reasonable to me

I am a parent and I have given a donation to the campaign for the last five elections. I do this because I moved here because of the schools and I want them to stay at a high level. I donate because I care about my kids education and want the value of my home to continue to go up. I give to many causes that I believe in and this is just one of them. I read the letter that was sent. I have NO problem with it and I would hope the teachers and staff are giving money also.
What?

This is just a silly comment. Seems to me we need more parents to get involved and try to make a difference.
Dispatch can do better...

This article was created by a call from Slaven to a Dispatch buddy. Read the article & that's evident - if it was investigative at all in nature there would have been a comparison on funding of levy campaigns around the beltway.

Funny thing is there isn't any info on that.....

Anyone want to guess why?

1. Barb was in such a snit from being replaced that she had to get her pound of flesh on Sunday?

2. Dispatch mis-placed all other district phone numbers & didn't want to mention that Dublin, Olentangy & Hilliard raise levy money the same way?

3. It was a slow new day & the Dispatch needed to manufacture what was above the fold?

Follow up article, I'd like to see how levy campaigns are funded - I WANT to know if Pickerington's campaign is different. I also want to know if it's not. Anyone else want to know?

Is the Dispatch gonna do a big article about Hillary's fund raising chair being indicted? That news is at least substantiated.

If a request was made for vendors - they probably got the whole list. If the request was made for current vendors MAYBE they would have gotten a list without Slaven's name. But then you have to know how to define current - Barb was current as of May 2007...that's the last time I saw an article.
