Its a perk
That doesn't solve anything. The teachers show they are dedicated by working for the pay that they do. Having great benefits is a perk that helps us to keep those quality teachers in our district. Sounds like you are just thinking about yourself not the well being of everyone. This is a replacement levy. people need to get a grip and pony up.

Reality Check, Powder Puff
Your last posting sticks in my craw alot, PP. For many of us out here in reality land, life's different. We are making adjustments OUR health care costs. But your exempt?
Let me tell you, PP, we PONY UP every six with property taxes. And every year with 1% more. We PONY UP for ''EXTRA'' curriclar activities that we pay our share for. I don't see how that's EXTRA.
If I spoke to my employer that way, there would be consequnces. And from your tone, I would likely think there will be consequences for yours.
So everytime you get your PERS retirement statement and it shows you how well your doing, try to step off your high horse and remember it was us long time PLSD residents that got you there.

Renewal vs Replacement
Actually that's incorrect.
This levy has been renewed multiple times - a renewal keeps the existing $ at the same level. This levy has been renewed twice since it's inception. The original 5 mills has eroded to 2.8 Mills over the course of the years. Eroded due to the fact the levy DOES NOT collect additional dollars as we add new housing. What occurs is the voted millage gets lowered to the individual taxpayer as we add homes. The existing dollars are spread over more homes but the collection does NOT increase.
Currently a ''mill'' in Pickerington is worth about a million dollars. A replacement levy will take the levy back up to it's original voted level. This is the first time this levy has been ''replaced''. So the statement is actually correct.
What's incorrect is the screwy Ohio Law that controls how we fund schools. That's what keeps schools - no it's just not Pickerington - on the ballot over and over again. Well that and the fact that thousands of houses have been platted & have sprung up like weeds for years.
It's nice to see our City Candidates all talking about slowing growth. And yes it does seem to be slowing. But it will take years for the school district to recover from the slam of homes in the last 10 years. That fix doesn't happen overnight. As you vote in November - look carefully to see who was part of that problem and who was part of the solution.

Know the facts first
Someone is telling lies again. Something really stinks here. I don't have time over the next few days to get the real facts but lets do some comparisons shall we?
In 2001 the voters in the City of Pickerington renewed or replaced (who cares) their police levy. Recently I was reading through some minutes and that levy was originally voted in at 5.5 Mills. It currently is being collected at the effective rate of 3.8 mills. I seem to remember that in 2001 the Pickerington police levy was down in the 2 mill range when they wanted to build the police station. So in the same 13 year span as this issue 8 which the school claims it ONLY dropped in effective millage to
2.8 Mills ????????????????
That means the assessed value in the school district has only increased over the last 13 of less than a half billion dollars. That also means our growth rate over those same 13 years was less than 5% each year. I know the increses in assessed value has increased well over 8% for most years in question.
GIVE US ALL A BREAK AND START TELLING US THE TRUTH.
Also check the definition of renewal and replacement.
