Pickerington Area Taxpayers Alliance

Good-bye fire service

Posted in: PATA
At what point will our citizens in the City of Pickerington realize the hypocrisy of the Violet Township trustees? When the City of Pickerington was trying to help development in 2006 and they offered the developer a NON-SCHOOL TIF for the 1,200 foot road near the Kohl?’s store the trustees came to council to protest the effects it would have on ?“OUR?” fire department.

Now I read the very same thing is happening down in Violet Pointe and we can hear the silence. This TIF will include the Meijer?’s Store and the new emergency room being built by the Mount Carmel and FMC. For the City of Pickerington Tax payers who receive nothing from the Violet Pointe project they are left to pay or subsidized the Violet Township Fire Department. I know of no residential area in the VFD fire district that benefits or gets reduced property taxes.

To reward the citizens of Pickerington they are planning to close the downtown fire house on Lockville Road and move the operations down to the Violet Point area that was recently transferred to Violet Township from the Ruth Pifer estate. She had wanted a public park there and our almighty trustees have used their own interpretation of her gift like they normally do and they are building their new Taj Mahal Fire House South building to service the area that only pays NOTHING for their fire service and they won?’t for the next 30 years.

So those that live in the city will need to wait even longer than they did before because equipment will be placed further away from the residents that actually pay for the service.

So the question is: are the Citizens of the City of Pickerington truly being represented fairly by the trustees?

Ship of Fools

The new junior and senior schools built in the township. How many city residents attend them? The new schools at Tollgate and Refugee. How many city residents, if any ever, will attend them? And now the new fire department, too. Along with the one on Refugee Road.

The township appears to me like it's taking action so if the city were to form its own township (which the city doesn't have the guts to do) they get all the nice, new schools and fire houses with the help of your cash.

So where is all the developement happening? You tell me.

Barking up the wrong tree

The district is building 3 new schools - one in the City (which you conveniently left out of your tirade) and two in the township.

I've read on this website that the City makes up one third of the school district. If that's true why would the city needs more than 33% of the new schools being built?

I've listed the schools as city or township based on where they sit geographically. The kids are not split like this. Kids from the township areas attend all of the ''city'' schools as well. There are some areas of the city that attend ''township'' schools.

City Schools = 6 (6/14 = 43% of school buildings)
Pickerington Elementary
Heritage Elementary
Sycamore Creek Elementary (new)
Diley Middle School
Ridgeview Jr. High School
Central High School

Township = 8 (8/14 = 57% of school buildings)
Violet Elementary
Fairfield Elementary
Tussing Elementary
Tollgate Elementary (new)
Harmon Middle School
Tollgate Middle School (new)
Lakeview Junior High
North High School

There goes the payroll tax too!

There goes the payroll tax the firemen paid to the CITY OF PICKERINGTON.

Just another example of the TOWNSHIP sticking it to the CITY.

Please read the Vote No On Issue 9 Propaganda on the left side of your screen.

''Annexing residential property and conforming the boundaries are really bad
ideas that would not only cost vou more in taxes: it would tear apart our Fire
Department and our communitv. We are ONE community. Defeating this
amendment preserves that.

''Working together we can build a areat community''

Yea....right.

Jeff, David, Heidi and Keith........ You all signed the letter. Still believe?

We are really up the creek without a paddle now.

We are NOT one community. The TOWNSHIP sees to that.
