School Board Breaks Contract

Posted in: PATA
During the October 8, 2007 Board of Education meeting, Superintendent Karen Mantia, Ed.D., introduced the Contract with the Community. This contract pledges efficient and effective use of tax dollars and addresses four major components including:

?•keeping the existing quality education;(broken)
?•achieving the Team Goal through the Success Drivers;
?•stretching levy dollars as long as possible; and,
?•increasing communication with the community. (broken)

You are asking how these were broken ...... have you heard on the new open enrollment policy ..... probably not ... because our school board does not want people to know about it..... in a 4 -1 vote the board changes the open enrollment to ... your child can only apply for open enrollment in the 6th grade and for it to take effect going into the 7th grade .... There was no discussion on it or let me re-phrase that, the school board did not allow any discussion . It was on the agenda but was not named, it had a number by it ....

So Dr. Mantia ...... how are you going to fix this ..... you have not done jack since you have been here ....
Let's get those facts straight

The district posts ''highlights'' of all Board meetings. These are different from the official set of minutes in that they do not need formal approval by the Board.

Following are the highlights from the Monday, December 17 Board meeting re: the new Intra-district Open Enrollment Policy.

You can find the complete meeting highlights by going to the Board's page on the PLSD website.

APROVAL OF POLICY JECBD ?– INTRADISTRICT OPEN ENROLLMENT
?• The second of two required readings took place regarding policy JECB D ?–
Intradistrict Open Enrollment.
?• Changes to this policy only address athletics and requires all student athletes in
grades 7-12, beginning with applications for the 2008-09 school year, who request
and are granted an Intradistrict Open Enrollment Transfer to comply with Ohio High
School Athletic Association (OHSAA) Bylaw 4-7-3.
?• Currently the OHSAA Bylaw only affects students in grades 9-12 once they have
established eligibility. Through this policy change, Pickerington Local Schools will
adjust the range of students in the district complying with this Bylaw to include
grades 7-12.

Play on words

I think you all better pay very close attention to ?“EVERY?” word that Dr. Mantia says. Please note that during the most recent levy campaign the supporters talked about not coming back to the voters for another ?“INSTRUCTIONAL?” levy for FOUR years if this last levy passed. Well it passed and now they are talking about the 7.9 mill levy.

Does the instructional levy also include bond issue levies to build something? Does the average voter know the different between a bond issue and an operating levy or should I call that an instructional levy?
