Red Light Cameras

Posted in: PATA
JFK?

And while we're on the conspiracy theory paranoia can you tell me who shot JFK?
Not Theory

These cameras are a fact Jack not theory. I don't know if you have heard of the internet and the search engine GOOGLE but it will provide you with tons of information about these traffic signal video cameras that are actual cameras and they can record your car and its image as it runs the light or you fail to yield the right of way. I will bet if you have an accident and it is your fault look for the victim's lawyer to ask for the tape.

web site

can you post the web site where i can watch the traffic through these cameras?

Thanks!
Video on the web??

Bert

I am not aware of a web site that we could watch the intersections in Pickerington with the new video detectors. I was only reporting on the capabilities of these new video detectors that the city is installing. Even if the city were to take full advantage of this capability I doubt they would share that video with the public because it is tied into the timing of the traffic signals. I don't think we want teenagers hacking into that system to change the light timings.

They can also use Telco lines or direct lines to send the signals back to a central location. Of course all of these added features cost more money for software and extra equipment. I think for the time being the city will use only the traffic count feature to adjust signal timing.

I think allowing the police to monitor via video images is an up and coming thing. Currently the Pickerington High Schools have cameras all over their buildings and they could easily be adapted to place those images on a secure internet site so they could be monitored at the police station. This would be especially helpful in cases of after hour break-ins and school intruders like a school shooter.

The red light cameras currently being used in Columbus are high def cameras capable of reading license tag numbers and they are probably more expensive. In addition, I understand that they are owned and operated by a private company. Working in conjunction with the court they identify the violators and get their address and mail them a ticket. They are paid a percentage of the fines.

If the city were to take full advantage of the current video cameras being installed they could monitor traffic flow and identify (by physical description) the car that may have caused an accident. In cases of after hours robberies they could possibly identify the get away car that only has a few choices when leaving the scene. If you have ever had a colonoscopy then you know they have some very high def video cameras that are very small.

ODOT uses these kinds of video cameras to control how many of us can get on the freeway in the mornings. They have a secret control room some where that I have not been able to locate that slows the light timing down if there is heavy traffic entering at 256.

Columbus also has high def cameras being placed in high crime areas of Columbus and these cameras are complete with audio. Imagine placing just few cameras on our major roads and then see if they could identify the violators as they come and go. Those cameras could be small enough that no one would know they are there.

If you like to watch a web site with traffic flow I would recommend that you google either the locate TV stations or ODOT who posts its camera images.
