Why does the City Council have these public hearings? The Dispatch reports that the City had another public hearing last night. This one was on the RED LIGHT cameras. It swayed no one on council and they voted the same way they planned to vote, over two weeks ago.
Trying to argue that these red light cameras were a safety issue Jeff Fix indicated that he had been ticketed twice in Columbus from these types of cameras. Despite these cameras being well publicized in the paper Mr. Fix didn?’t seem to learn from the white box that was bolted to the utility pole near the intersection. He still didn?’t learn from the first ticket and committed a red light violation again. Now he says this will teach better driving habits of others in the city and township. BULL CRAPPPPPPP!!!
Mr. Fix is a terrible driving and no amount of tickets have curtailed his reckless behavior and driving. If this is truly a device to improve the safety of the community then let?’s see the number of accidents over the last three years and once the lights are installed then start counting the accidents again. If over the next year or two we don?’t see an improvement in the number of accidents (accidents going down) then remove the cameras because their argument of safety has failed.
With the city budget in the dumper these misguided council members are trying to raise the revenues for the police department (who are over priced) and this is just the beginning of the development of a New Rome East. The city just spent nearly a half million dollars to install smart traffic controllers at these busy intersections and these cameras will defeat the ability of these controllers to adjust the traffic timing on the fly and help traffic move better. If the city sees increased revenues with these three cameras locations look for cameras everywhere. All in the name of safety and police protection.
Your rights to question an officer and explain what happened will be gone once you are issued a ticket (moving violation) you get points and aggravation. It is obvious that our council is in way over its head. In addition they will be coming back to ask for more money this fall. Your ability to get to work on time in the morning is a non-issue. This will allow the police department to sit on their collective butts at the station and allow a retired law enforcement officer to sign off on your red light traffic tickets.
COMING SOON: hidden cameras on your street recording you and your neighbors conversations and issuing citations for spitting on the street, swearing, speeding, kids riding the wrong way on a street, smoking, adultery and being stupid all in the name of safety.
Will our Ohio and U.S constitution protect us now?
