I want to thank the anonymous web master for putting the important message from the President of the Pickerington City Council out front so everyone could see it yesterday. Many of us cowardly idiots can?’t find our way around to display these discussions. Thank you for your help.

I believe the theme of the President?’s message was courage or lack of it. In his attempt to prove his point he exposed a private citizen who had made the mistake of identifying himself at a council hearing and spoke out against the red light cameras. I am sure this private citizen wanted his name in lights on this web site that almost no one reads.

We should be reminded that in Nazi Germany the Jewish people were required to wear tags in the shape of the star of David to identify them as Jews. We all know how that turned out.

I would caution anyone wanting to speak before council that you must give you name and address. The only thing you must then fear is what will those running for council do with that information? I am sure there has been a file created on the private citizen highlighted in the President?’s message yesterday.

$$ or safety

Below I have provided the minutes from the public hearing from January 20th, on the Red Light Cameras. I have extracted the comments from Mr. Fix.

?“Mr. Fix stated he can tell you that red light cameras do change behavior from first hand experience, and when he drives through those intersections he is very aware of whether the light is red, yellow, or green, and just based on that he feels this is a good program to go forward with. Mr. Fix further stated we cannot deny there will be revenue generated by this program, but we have no idea what that number will look like. He stated it may be $5,000 a year and it may be $50,000 a year, we have no idea. He continued that 75 percent of the people who travel our roads are residents of our community, and city residents are 40 percent of that 75 percent. He stated if you multiply that out, 15 percent of the violations would be violations by the residents of the City of Pickerington so the revenue that would be generated by this would be significantly from outside the City of Pickerington. Mr. Fix stated this is a safety issue and there are studies on both sides of it and Mr. Wisniewski had done a great job of researching this and presenting a lot of information that show there is the possibility of increased accidents. He stated there are also studies that show there is a decrease in accidents, it just depends on the intersection, the timing, where the study was done, who did the study, etc. Mr. Fix stated his personal experience is that it will change behavior, it will slow people down, and we will therefore have safer streets.?”

I would like to analyze briefly some of Mr. Fix?’ comments below.

?“He continued that 75 percent of the people who travel our roads are residents of our community, and city residents are 40 percent of that 75 percent. He stated if you multiply that out, 15 percent of the violations would be violations by the residents of the City of Pickerington so the revenue that would be generated by this would be significantly from outside the City of Pickerington.?”

How does Mr. Fix know that 75% of the people who travel our streets live in the community?

Then how does he know of that 75% that 40% of those motorists live in the City of Pickerington?

?“Then he says that only 15% of those receiving red light tickets will live in the city.?”

So Mr. Fix please explain how you are so confident that of the tickets that will be issued only 15% of them will go to city residents? Does this sound like the income tax increase campaign? Same 15% affected, the rest should not care. Please quote the study you have of who passes through these intersections and how do you know where they live? How do you know who is running the red lights and where they live? Do you have access to license plate data through the police department? If seems to think that the REVENUE will come from residents outside the city. How about the safety of all who travel through these intersections?

Either Mr. Fix is lying about his numbers so he can look smart or he is a total incompetent trying to get re-elected this year.

Why waste my time

Did you even read what I wrote?!?!

I said I respected Mr. Lecuru (and his name is a matter of public record) because he didn't anonymously call names, put out false information, or hide behind his computer. He stood up for what he believed in, did his homework, and tried to sway council by speaking before it. I admire him for that and wish more of you had the guts to do the same. THAT's the way to get things done. All you cowards who won't step up also won't change a thing in this city. Keep blasting away boys (and girls), you're really making an impact!

Wow

Holy cow, Batman.

I avoid this site for a couple months and find this when I return. Perhaps I need to erase this URL once and for all.
