As reported last June at a public meeting with a PATA representative present, here are figures from PLSD Treasurer on the value of Class 2 commercial property within PLSD:
Unincorporated Violet Township - $10,338,860
City of Pickerington - $41,764,790
Of the $52,103,650 Class 2 commercial property value in Violet Township 80% of it is within the City of Pickerington. The city has only 36% of the area population. So with 36% of the people are responsible for 80% of the Class 2 commercial within the township within school district.
I would be remiss if I did not point out that the district also receives property taxes on another $18,057,240 worth of Class 2 commercial in the City of Columbus and some tax money on property in the City of Reynoldsburg.
Apartments complexes are not included in Class 2 commercial properties.
In addition, real estate taxes from new commercial development contruction grew in the City of Pickerington in five years by 1615% primarily due to new commercial development in Windmiller Square, Hunters Run and the two new hotels.
As a school district we need to further attract more commercial development. Overall, of the $51,000,000 annual PLSD budget, 50% comes from the state, 18% comes from the 1% income tax, 28% comes from property taxes and 4% misc. Of the 28% property tax -- 85% is residential and 15% is commercial.
