Disappointed

Posted in: PATA
When I read about David Shaver?’s proposal to place a moratorium on housing permits in Pickerington I thought it was the best idea yet to solving our growth problems but also thought, ?‘yeah, good luck getting that through committee?’.

However, the triggering event of the proposal dealing with similar legislation at the township level appears to be DOA with trustee Myers sounding eerily similar to Pickerington city council in stating ''It sounds like a good way to open yourself up to a liability suit. I don't think ... we would be interested in going that direction.''

Not even a ray of hope in that statement, nothing like ?“We will look into it?” or ?“Sounds interesting?” just squashed like a bug without even mulling it over.

So what direction would Harry be interested in going? The continued uncontrolled growth direction? Sure is the easiest direction to head it seems. ?“Where?’d I place that rubber stamp of mine??” Better save some land out in the township for that 3rd High School, looks like we?’ll be needing it in about 10 years or so.

I had hoped for more from the Township but 'business as usual' appears to be alive and well.

I?’ve had it, I?’m moving to utopia ?– AKA Beachwood! ;-)

The Glass is half FULL!

Brian,

First you should remember that there are three Township Trustees. I am sure Mr. Myers will say what his supporters would expect of him. If you want to make the difference call the township and let them know how you feel about the moratorium on additional homes. I am sure some well placed words at the Township Trustees meeting will be listened to and probably acted upon.

The biggest issue here is the water and sewer plants. See my previous posting below. The county and Canal Winchester gave invested millions into these plants. To pay off the bonds in THEIR time frame they must sell water and SEWER taps. The county is in much better shape than Pickerington because their capacity is only around 700,000 per day through put. We have been fighting Pickerington not to expand their sewer plant. However Canal Winchester has more capacity and must continue to sell sewer taps to Pickerington.

The city is biased against Mr. Shaver 6 to 1. Just to get it out of the service committee he is facing a 2 to 1 vote. However, I would recommend that you attend the July 11th at 7:30 P.M. Pickerington Service Committee meeting and let them know your feelings. Here is you opportunity to make a difference. Once they reach the opinion that they can?’t support a moratorium on new housing starts then ask them what can they support? In the service committee meetings you will be allowed to talk back and forth to the councilmen and ask questions and also put your two cents in. They then will be placed in the position to defend their lack of any controls placed on the building rate here in Pickerington.

If the elected and appointed officials of this community CAN?’T support and a reduction in the growth rate of our residential housing starts then we can always run another one of those petitions. We could use some help over in Preston Trails.

Brian, you mentioned Beachwood. There are many communities around Ohio that have controlled their growth rate. We can do it also. We will do it. It is such a long hard process to get everyone on the same page of why these housing starts are so bad for the community. I think folks are beginning to see the light.

Remember the Service Committee Meeting July 11th at 7:30 PM. Tell them why we should control our residential growth rates. It is up to you and everyone else reading this posting. Make them state their positions. Tell them that you are VERY WILLING to circulate an initiative or two. Remember the folks in the City can double dip. We are both city residents and township residents two petitons one door. Now let?’s pry our butts away from these computers and let them know how we feel.

David Shaver has placed the issue on the floor, don't let this opportunity pass with out a fight!

Disappointment makes opportunity

Brian,

What made you think that the incorporated region of our area had the corner on elected officials without a vision or an ear to the wishes of the citizens. Try a Trustee meeting after all you are also a member of the township and get to vote in the elections of these office holders. Express yourself, you won?’t get your head bitten of like citizens do at some public meetings and you might find that the ?“representative?” that has attended so many City Council Meetings as a Liaison has lost (if they ever had) the understanding of the way elected government should work. Or you might find that the attitude expressed in the newspaper is in the minority in that meeting room.

You missed a real fun show at the last Service Committee meeting. Why they don?’t charge for admission is always a question to me. The Chair didn?’t even have Mr. Shaver?’s moratorium Ordinance issue on the agenda and tried to gavel the meeting adjourned before Mr. Shaver could even bring it up for discussion.

If you think that your opinion should count then you owe it to yourself (and so many others) to express that opinion. Government wasn?’t meant to take place in a vacuum. That?’s why these meetings are ?“public?”. What have you got to loose, unless you don?’t want to curb residential construction?

By the way my offer still stand to share the fact based informational resources that we have here at PATA.
