Notice of Public Hearing

Posted in: PATA
An excerpt from a letter I received in the mail:

?“Public notice is hereby given that the Ohio EPA has scheduled a public hearing on the draft National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) for the discharge from the existing City of Pickerington waste water treatment plant disposal system.

?…The proposed discharges are to Sycamore Creek to Big Walnut Creek and subsequently the Scioto River. The NPDES application was submitted by Joyce Bushman?…?…..

The discharges from this facility, if approved, would result in DEGRADATION TO, OR LOWERING OF, THE WATER QUALITY OF SUCAMORE CREEK AND POSSIBLY BIG WALNUT CREEK?…?…?….

The public hearing has been scheduled for August 29, 2002 at 6:30 pm at the Peace United Methodist Church, 235 Diley Road, Pickerington?…..?”

So where do you stand?? Do you care?? Do we need to let the city unnecessarily degrade the quality of the water in Sycamore Creek??

We can stop them in their tracks here folks.

Stop any expansion of water and sewer and we stop the development in its tracks.

Read elsewhere in this forum about the ridiculous amounts of sewer discharge that has happened in a single day. More than once. Do the calculations of how many of your friends, family and neighbors have had raw sewage back up into their basements on an average per week.

Get with the program and make your voices heard if you even care.

Webmaster: perhaps you can post the entire letter on this site in case some of the apathetic don?’t believe what I have written here.

fight city claims

Maverick,

I just want people to know that the city will try to tell everyone that ''they need this sewer expansion so that they can develop commercial in our school district.'' The fact people need to remember is that the potential commercial areas along SR 33 can all be served by Canal Winchester of Fairfield County utilities with sewer and water, they do not need Pickerington services to develop this area!

The city thinks it needs Pickerington services there so they can attract commercial by waiving the sewer and water tap fees normally paid by the developers. These same fees pay to maintain the current system, (which is debatably being overlooked at this time) without these fees beiong collected, the system users will face huge increases in costs to repair and replace aging lines.

Why does the city have to be ''Santa Claus(e)'' with these giveaways and TIF's and tax abatements with no limit, when right next door, Canal Winchester is able to develop industrial and commercial with LIMITED tax abatements and a healthy endowment of their schools to offset some of the loss of the taxes?

The last Pickerington Sewer plant expansion occured in 1999 it cost 8 million dollars. Where has all of that new capacity gone? It went to houses and condos! Any claim by the city that this expansion will go to commercial is just not true. They will once again use it up on homes and apartments. I think degrading the quality of this watershed further is not in the best interest of the community in the name of runaway housing growth. It is also not called for because utility capacity exists to serve these areas with other utilities!

Pickerington must learn to cooperate, not try to controll everything resulting in huge tax and fee costs to the community and legal ramifications and costs because they act like the biggest bully in the area.

Stop the expansion, stop runaway home develpment. Demand a reasonable balanced growth management plan. They will tell lies to justify this expansion in my view. Just say no and bring the alternative views to light.
