It would appear that the recall effort has ground to a screeching halt. Rumors to its demise are twofold. First, as stated in the press, the spokesperson (potential council candidate in 2003??) has stated that they have adopted a ?“wait and see?” posture. Wait and see who will be appointed to the current vacant seats. If ?“they?” don?’t appoint one of ?“us?” then we will recall. If ?“they?” appoint one of ?“them?” they will have shown once and for all their disdain for the wishes of the vast majority of the voters of Pickerington and the citizens will revolt. Well guess what Mr. Spokesperson/candidate, they have a plan. Neither you, nor 16 of the 17 candidates being interviewed for the seats are a consideration. Don?’t you think that the powers had a plan the moment they knew that Hughes and Monebrake were taking a walk? The interviews, just like last time, are just a formality to keep up appearances.
Secondly, the recall effort has ceased to be because the effort has turned into nothing more than other efforts to make a positive change in this community have. Their meetings, correspondence, initiatives have turned into just another bash Pickerington session. Over and over again, when this well-intentioned group of people get together, the focus of the meeting is moved to complaints and hate mongering of the city government. They have failed to realize the least common denominator in this trend. There is a small group among this coalition who have nothing better to do than complain. They are very vocal and can easily monopolize any conversation or meeting. They tell the same tales over and over again. Every call to action attempted by committees, new clubs and the like suffer the same fate. They all turn into another Pickerington bi+ch session. Also, the same leadership in these common efforts prevails. Does the leadership have anything other than their own political ambitions at heart? It doesn?’t appear so.
You want to make a difference? Change leadership, leave the political self-serving self-appointed leadership behind and get on with it. Take out the opportunities in your meetings for the conversation and direction to be hijacked by the same old complainers singing the same old songs.
Act or react ?– the choice is yours. But I can tell you for certain that the people running this city are not sitting idly by and reacting. You bloodied their noses in November and they will not let that happen again. They will appoint from their own fold in contempt of the apparent desires of the voters. They will get back to business as usual as soon as they fill the seats.
Referendums of the choices, recalls, complaints?…. Time is on their side, not yours.
