Pickerington Area Taxpayers Alliance

What a beautiful weekend

I?’m so glad to quit shoveling and get out and enjoy the weather. Glad at least until I took a break and read my SE Messenger. Now I get to find that my Mayor (by default) and City Manager have designed another ?“win-win?” situation that has got ?“lose-lose?” written all over it. Long ago I stopped believing these two and this article gave me added reasons to maintain my beliefs. There is nothing in what was written that has ?“growth control?” what so ever. I?’m tired of these two sell outs to developers. Slow the houses or shut up and deal with the consequences.

By until
I just read it too, puke...

I just read the messenger too and I must say the weather is quite nice to walk petitions.

I did not see any ''growth plan'' in this at all, especially when the builders are in charge of the plan! I think the Community Authority is a good thing, IF.... it encompases all land within a school district and it is accompanied by a reasonable growth plan that slows the rate of housing growth to a level that the community can afford. This ''plan'' announced is none of that, in fact it is not even a plan yet, it is just a few meetings they are feeling good about. No papers are signed.

I am not suprised by this press conference action from the city at all. They routinely give out TIFs to developers on a handshake. In fact all new commercial built in Pickerington City limits is all Tiffed for the next ten years. Only 25% of the new real estate taxes on any commercial you see being built in the city will benefit the schools and fire department. The other 75% of the property taxes will pay for improvements the city promises to the developers, roads, sewers, street lights, water lines etc. Many of these new businesses you see would have come here anyhow because they serve our growing population service oriented business and retail. The only one benefiting from these TIF's is the developer who owns the land and gets his infrastructure for free... paid for by taxes that should go to the schools. By time the businesses are built, the developer is usually gone, having sold the land at a much higher value than when he bought it, with free improvements which increased the value of his land, courtesy of the City Council, on the backs of the schools and fire department.
